I can't know, but I suspect it was mostly non-verbal emotions.

Imagining his homicidal reaction was about response to those emotions rather than obvious threats posed by MB with his hands in the air is the only way I can wrap my brain around it.

Always heard my local gun toting 2nd amendment "folks" spewing this common wisdom that if you shoot someone do it anyway you can -- including in the back -- and then when they're down roll them over and shoot them again to make sure they're dead. "The cops won't question you about it" they'd say. "You won't end up in court for years" was the other half of it.

Certainly the circumstances here seem to indicate some thought that a single version of events would be much neater than two versions....

I think it may have also been horror that he shot him in the first place. Some people react to horror by trying to make it 'go away'.

You guys did send away for your PastThoughtMetron 2000, didn't you? "You can know what anybody at any point in history was thinking or your money back (assuming you can find us, which you can't)." I bought two - one for the home and one for the office.

Even if he has no regrets for killing an 18 year old man child he has placed his fellow officers in jeapordy. The images on television should burn the soul for even the most deviant self centered Sociopath. What have I done?

Regardless of what he should feel, or what he might actually feel, his police chief clearly feels like this was totally justified (in fact he somehow feels like they are showing restraint) so he will be pushed onto a script, and if the police chief isn't sure he can stick to it he will be kept off stage as much as possible.

This thinking of poor American citizens as people less deserving of respect, or no respect at all is pervasive. This is not necessarily a racists moniker, they apply it to poor whites and people who they perceive as giving them a hard time. We are all potential Scrotes if we question them at all. It is definitely an "us against them" mentality. It is dehumanizing at a minimum and leads to wrongful prosecutions, abuse, and sometimes, unnecessary deaths!
It is born of tolerance of this behavior by all in the law enforcement field, as their is no one teaching them any different. They all rise up through the ranks having to deal with the public when we are not at our best for sure. The instructors have had to go through this too and see nothing wrong with it. They get lied to and abused so much that this is their natural reaction. I am not defending it at all, just saying where it comes from and why they (law enforcement leaders and instructors) don't say/do anything about it.
The cops know that their co-workers feel the same way and will back them up!
