you can make the same argument for the Bush tax cuts
and in fact, Bush did. And since they included a cut of the bottom tax rate from 15% to 10% on the first $6,000 of income, they also gave SOME money to low income workers, and even more to the middle class.
"I am doing this to help the poor, the middle class"
"When you hear the debate about this kind of class warfare, rhetoric about, oh, this is for the rich, only for the rich -- I want you to think about the Joe Kempers of the world. I certainly will. A fellow who worked for our government, and now a fellow who we trust with that $3,500, because it's his money. And when he invests it, it's going to have a positive effect. All the Joe Kempers of the world taking that extra money and investing it will mean somebody else is likely to find a job, and that's important for our fellow Americans to understand." Feb 12, 2003
"I am doing this to create jobs"
"Yes, I'm worried about the deficit. I'm worried about the deficit, but I'm more worried about the fellow looking for work. I'm worried about the deficit, but I'm more worried about the single mom who's worried about putting food on the table for her children, so she could find work. And that's where the focus of this administration is going to be." May 12, 2003
Pay no attention to the truckloads of money behind the curtain!!!
You would have me pay no attention to the $44 billion that goes to the richest 10%, because, after all, it is all about giving tax relief of $22 billion to the poorest 40%.
And because, we know, don't we, that another $170 billion in tax cuts (with almost 50% going to the richest 20%) would never, ever, be used to justify cuts to people who are even needier. Right? Right?
er, wrong. http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=3625&emailView=1
