General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe story from Ferguson PD keeps changing
At the first presser, they released the incidence report and the officer's name
At the second presser, they stated and were asked numerous times why Brown was stopped and were told for jaywalking and that the officer knew nothing about the robbery
Now Steve Kernaki is saying the Chief has stated that the officer saw the cigerellos in his hand and put two and two together
What's the real story? They don't seem to realize that all of this makes them look suspicious and involved in a cover-up (which it most likely is)?

(62,444 posts)...the incident log has them still looking for the robbery suspect 7 hours later.

(36,437 posts)The second officer does indeed log further canvassing at 18:45.

(62,444 posts)While it is facile to say "the PD was still looking for him" that log has a cryptic entry at 12:09 PM stating "was advised".
So I don't know as I sit here just whose observation that was.

(23,957 posts)i think this is more for the benefit of the Friday evening news than their official story for legal purposes. it makes their case 50% more difficult, they'll change the story again for the trial.

(14,040 posts)had cigars in both hands, so how could he grab for a gun? The other witness says she saw Brown's hand on the outside of the SUV trying to pull away from the cop using his hands to push against the door...He must have an extra arm or two.

(23,957 posts)the police know damn well how to frame the story to get their man off the hook. the county and state prosecuters are already aligned with the pd, and will not be pushing very hard for a conviction. the only possible conviction would be in federal court.
Johnson is already a compromised witness (friend of the murdered teen so obviously police-hostile, alleged accomplice to the robbery) and his character will be further impugned before the trial.
the other witnesses confirm that MB was killed away from the police car by multiple gunshots which is consistent with the pd's story so far. all that's left is for the pd to gin up a credible threat to the officer, which they're well on the way to doing. unless the pd truly fucks up their main go-to-court story with several glaring inconsistencies this is going to be an acquittal.

(17,064 posts)Add to that the shooter cop leaving town, even though he didn't live in Ferguson and his identity wasn't then known. Is there even proof of these supoosed "death threats"? Looks like they know they're in deep doo-doo, and are struggling to concoct a believeable story. I doubt any of the versions told so far are the truth.
OTOH, there are at least three eye-witnesses of the shooting, whose stories agree, backed up by video. If I'm on a jury, I know which side is credible.

(62,444 posts)A neighbor said the family had not been at the home.
Is there information elsewhere that he had "left town"?
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Unclear what "left town" means. Might still be in greater St Louis metropolitan area, just not in the particular suburb community where he resided. Current whereabouts unknown, afaik.

(17,064 posts)And there does appear to be an institutional problem in the FPD with harrassment, racism, violation of civil rights, excessive force, poor record keeping, falsifying records, and perjury. So yes, the entire force should be shut down.
