Some questions:
Where is the allegedly stolen box of cigars? Was it found near Michael Brown body after he was killed?
If Michael Brown and his friend did participate in a robbery, why hasn't Brown's friend been arrested for that crime?
These allegation just don't add up.

Blah is how i feel about some people in America right now.
Time to flood the police with lawsuits until the drown in paperwork. Leave them less tim to kill people, if they're constantly in court for civil right violations.
We need to start suing just for the handcuffs being too tight. And everybody needs to pull out a camera as soon as they SEE a cop. They won't use dash cams, we need to help them out.

(111,277 posts)to cut down on the carnage by cops is make them wear lapel cams.
Most of them just turned the cams off when they felt like beating the hell out of somebody.
One guy forgot and left his on when Boyd was murdered.
That's when the FBI stepped in.
Any cop who turns his cam off needs to be fired on the spot, turn that gun in, cowboy.

(34,648 posts)There has got to be a law about that. They need to be sued until the get some act right.

Then there's the asshole who lobbed a flash-bang grenade at a homeless guy who was surrendering peacefully. Naturally, he wasn't peaceful after that and the police shot him.
I guess the guy wasn't moving fast enough to suit him.
One cop had his lapel camera on. It was enough to bring the Feds in, finally.

(11,785 posts)First thing I wondered was whether that dollar amount was high enough to make the crime more serious. I don't believe any of this.
onenote
(42,715 posts)but can be found online for around $35. A price of around $48 dollars for a box at a convenience store sounds plausible. http://www.cigarsinternational.com/cigars/12525/swisher-sweets-outlaws/
I'm posting this for informational purposes. I don't have a clue whether or not Brown and Johnson took a box of cigars or a package of cigars or a single cigar. And I don't care since, no matter what he did or didn't take, the police use of deadly force was unjustified.
on edit: Apparently Johnson's attorney has acknowledged that his client and Brown were involved in a theft from the convenience store. http://www.ksdk.com/story/news/local/2014/08/15/attorney-dorian-johnson-michael-brown-robbery/14118769/

(42,715 posts)A 48 pack contains six packages of eight cigars. Each package contains two rows of four cigars. The eight packages are arrayed two across and three deep. Thus, the 48 pack is about 5 inches high (the cigars are 4 and 3/4 long), four inches wide (the width of two eight packs each containing two rows of four cigars) and three inches deep (three packages, each an inch deep).

(11,785 posts)as opposed to a pack, which might go unnoticed. The guy in the security video has something in his right hand, but it looks more like a plastic bottle than a box of anything.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)It was a pack. There were two that the guy handed to the kid. It looked like he was trying to pay and there was a confrontation.
A twin pack is between a dollar and one seventy five. You can clearly see in the video that he did not have a box.
Fifty nine cent each. I know cause I have smoked thousands of them. Filled with weed. They are not for smoking, they are flavored and you split them and fill them and roll them up.

(1,045 posts)in the D. and a lot of times, there's a shit-talking relationship between the cashier and the purchaser. People walk back and forth to these types of stores all day long, and words (sometime along with fists) are exchanged. I was a lottery-girl before I got sick of the damn shit and enlisted in the Navy.
I so wanna explain it but I don't feel like it. I give you props for the patience you have, hopefully I will be there one day.

(34,648 posts)Plenty of thefts!!! One guy would run in and snatch a whole box of snickers or whatever he wanted and laugh loud as hell HAHA! We started letting a couple of dudes hang out and drink cappuccinos all day. He came back and one of them tripped him on his way out running with a box of the coconut snickers. He never came back. We never bothered calling the police. We wrote it off as shrinkage and saved the videos to build a bigger case against him for ALL of the candy and cereal and chocomilk. Never did prosecute him.

I despair of this nations future. It will continue, then it will flip and the other side will be abused for the sins of their fathers and ancestors. Unless we END THAT CRAP NOW!!!! I don't want my descendants to use these crimes against humanity to give them cover to abuse or ignore the plight of other in the future. We do not need Civil War II.

(39,215 posts)things could get really tough. I as a white woman want this to stop. We had a dream in the 60s and it was not just for minorities. It was for all of us but that dream has been high-jacked somewhere along the road. I want that dream back for my great grandchildren and your children. We need to find a way.

(11,785 posts)You can buy a box of 60 of those for around $35 on the internet. Someone could palm or pocket a pack of mini-cigars, but a box of 60?!?
on edit: Correction; the box size was most likely 48 cigars. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=5394384

(34,076 posts)my guess is that the guy heard the police talking about it. He seems to be tweeting about what he saw and heard (and nothing in the tweet stream suggests he's getting it from the neighborhood). No idea why the police didn't say anything until now.
Go to the guy's twitter account and scroll down to the August 9 tweets and see if you think he's picking it up from neighborhood rumors.

It doesn't matter whether or not the victim was the lousiest of criminals on the block, it still stands: the police do not have the right to be prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner.

A murderer who is now being treated with "special consideration" due to "unique circumstances".
HeiressofBickworth
(2,682 posts)the police officer made himself prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner right on the spot. His only obligation, his job, was to take a suspect into custody and deliver the suspect to the hands of the legal system.
So yes, I agree, charges of murder would be appropriate.
Moving the officer out of town is just more of that Blue Wall of Silence for which the police are so famous.
I suspect the police investigators will wait a period of time until the demonstrations die down, declare the incident thoroughly investigated and the officer deemed not culpable of any wrong-doing. We've seen it before in police forces all across the nation.
It's this lack of culpability that sets off the outrage of the community. It means that any one of them, old, young, male, female, working, unemployed, educated, not educated, can be potential targets at the whim of the police. It is not to be tolerated!!!

(14,040 posts)Two black men stood near the counter. The one that they believe is Brown approaches the counter and stands there for a bit, then grabs a box of cigars and hands those to his friend. The friend looks at the box, then puts it back on the counter.
The man they believe us Brown snatches a huge handful of loose cigars and that us what he walks out if the store with.
I think the count of 1 box comes from swiping all the cigars in an opened box.
Browns friend Johnson said when the cop is trying to pull Brown into the SUV, his hands are full of the cigars, so he couldn't have grabbed for the officers weapon.
TorchTheWitch
(11,065 posts)That's what news reports are saying. Other than that, the cigars could have been in Brown's or Johnson's pocket. Apparently it was a small box of Swisher Sweets that's about the same size as a pack of cigarettes. We don't know what was found in Brown's pockets or what Johnson had in his. Johnson admitting it though makes nothing to quibble about.
