By CATHERINE THOMPSON Published AUGUST 14, 2014, 1:33 PM EDT
NBC's Chuck Todd will be named the new host of "Meet The Press" as early as Thursday afternoon, CNN's Brian Stelter reported.
Citing people with direct knowledge of NBC's plans who were not authorized to comment on the record, Stelter reported that current "Meet The Press" host David Gregory will so quickly be replaced by Todd that it's unlikely he'll host the network's flagship Sunday news program this weekend.
NBC declined to comment to Stelter on Gregory's replacement. The rumor that Gregory would be replaced has been circulating for quite a while, though.
Politico's Mike Allen had reported earlier this week that Todd, the network's chief White House correspondent and host of MSNBC's "The Daily Rundown," was the "likely successor" to Gregory and that the shake-up was "expected to be announced in coming weeks."

The only good part of it is that Joe, the Scab Scarborough and his long suffering sycophant sidekick, surely have their noses out of joint over this...

(112,365 posts)While I've never been impressed with Chuck, I also think that he does lean more to the left than David Gregory. What will be interesting is if he can make the transition from being a correspondent reporting news to being a host interviewing politicians. The latter job requires greater awareness and cognitive functions which will be a challenge for Chuck. We won't know if he can pull that off until he tries.

(12,799 posts)The interests they mean to serve are not those of the general public. I figured that out when we invaded Iraq and that predates Gregory.

(111,110 posts)...out of the box just a little.
And maybe, instead of one person, put a team together - sort of like Huntley-Brinkley. But instead of two male reporters, hire a female and male reporter, both young and intelligent, and shoot for the future.
I would prefer someone like Krystal Ball and Ronan Farrow, both intelligent enough to figure out the story and report it.

(22,308 posts)God knows it would be hard to be worse.
If he can keep his own political leanings in check and ask relevant questions he would be a big improvement.
Russert was on the right, but he did a good job because he still asked good questions no matter who was on.
If Chuckie can learn to do that, he might eventually get to a point where the show is watchable again. It sure as hell isn't watchable now.

(135,425 posts)oughta give one of those earlier iterations a chance. And maybe, just maybe, they might want to try putting someone of a different ethnicity than caucasian in the hosting seat.
I am a fan of a moderator who does a short interview and "controls" a panel asking questions. "Mr. Jones, you have one question--no followup..." e.g. The panel should consist of a range of print/electronic and TV reporters from left to right. They all should get the same number of questions, pretty much, with newbies maybe getting slightly fewer until they earn it. The panel can ask whatever they want, and of course the fans of the guest will ask softballs, and the foes will toss hardballs. It'll be a much better mix, I think.
Now, how to convince those bozos of the desirability of such a concept...?

(45,806 posts)I'm not sure, at this time, whether tough questions are never asked of the guests on MTP because the network heads don't WANT them asked, or if it was a decision made by the show host. I intend to watch Chuck and see what difference changing hosts is being made.
