(36,063 posts)Spent most of my years teaching at Liberal Arts colleges where the conflict between dreams and pragmatism was a regular part of life. It twisted emotions from the trustees through faculty all the way down to prospective students and their parents.

(4,338 posts)From a brilliant, caring, compassionate, extraordinarily funny man.
I had the pleasure of seeing Robin live in Toronto back in the 80's
Bobby McFerrin opened for him at Massey Hall.
One of the best shows I have ever seen and I've seen my fair share to be sure.

(5,714 posts)It seems that many of the most creative, talented, and brilliant people also, all too often, get more than their fair share of darkness, pain, and agony...
So, so, sooo sad. I don't even know what else to say...he was beloved.

(212 posts)My heart breaks for his family. They will watch him - in their minds - taking his own life the second they wake up for so, so long. I know this. I know this, and feel for the utter despair ahead for them. So sad for them, and for Mr. Williams. RIP.

(17,050 posts)Can barely type right now. This has saddened me more than any other "celebrity" death, I think. Your clip is appropriate and welcome; it's just me.

(9,895 posts)Today is grim and the soul reels from the loss of a brilliant artist and performer who brought me many, many hours of joy. The jokes will be funny once more; but not today, today the laughter waits as sorrow takes its place and turns the skies to gray.
May history remain blessed with the wit and humor of Robin Williams, I know I will take many of his moments with me for the rest of my own journey on this rock

(7,499 posts)As an educator, lover of literature, and idealistic human being, this film brings me to tears every time. We lost a fine and true soul today. RIP Robin. The world is better for once having you in it.

(62,271 posts)The uploader likely made it private so they wouldn't get flagged. And there are people out there that flag videos just for giggles.
Here's another of the Whitman Speech:
I'm not sure what WillPitt linked, though, I'm sure we can find an alternate. The entire movie has been uploaded to YouTube, it'll get taken down once some jerks flag it.
