Healthy U.S. man in Africa dies after being denied re-entry due to Ebola outbreak

http://www.blackyouthproject.com/2014/08/healthy-u-s-man-in-africa-dies-after-being-denied-re-entry-due-to-ebola-outbreak/

A 24-year-old Maryland man has died after being denied re-entry into the United States despite not having the Ebola virus.

Nathaniel Dennis passed away Wednesday morning in Liberia after a week-long coma. His family is blaming the government for the loss of their loved one.

From New Haven Register:

“Ebola shouldn’t have the power to kill people without the disease,” said Hyattsville resident Norwood Dennis IV, 25, his older brother by just 364 days.

Nathaniel Dennis, of Columbia, Maryland, died in Sinkor, Liberia, after testing negative over three days for Ebola. Since he was found comatose last week, his family had been fighting to fly him to Ghana or to the United States to receive attention from a neurologist at a better-equipped facility. But travel restrictions, in place to stop the spread of Ebola, prevented the trip.

And even if he had been allowed back in the country, exactly why do they assume he would have miraculously been cured of whatever put him in a coma?

we're not letting you, a US citizen, back into your own country? That's really sad. That's how crazy the paranoia has become

Maybe an autopsy will explain more.

But refused to allow a black man, free of the virus, to return.

I've got a feeling that the person who denied his reentry request is a republican.

indicate that the problem was with restrictions in Liberia, where he was quarantined, rather than the US. It sounds like the family was really focused on getting him to Ghana (not surprising given the distances):

Nathaniel Dennis, 24, suffered a seizure last week and his family had hoped to bring him to Ghana, where hospitals are better equipped to treat patients. But Ghanaian officials would not allow Dennis into the country, fearing that he might bring the ebola virus with him.

Mr. Dennis was not "healthy", but was not infected with Ebola.
