Missionaries who had contact with Ebola returning to Charlotte, NC

Missionaries returning from Liberia who have been in direct contact with the Ebola virus but who are not sick are heading to Charlotte and will be quarantined once they arrive, health officials said Sunday.

In a statement Sunday, Charlotte Douglas International Airport officials said they are “fully cooperating with state and local officials on the return of volunteers, staff and their families from West African countries currently affected by an Ebola outbreak.”

“The arrival will occur in an undisclosed, nonpublic area in order to ensure the safe return and privacy of the passengers,” the statement said. “The arrival is expected to have no impact (on) airport operations.”

SIM USA, based in Charlotte, is an international mission group that spreads the Gospel and helps the needy in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe.

One of its missionaries, Nancy Writebol of Charlotte, became the second American stricken with Ebola while serving in Liberia. She was transferred to Emory University Hospital last Tuesday while her husband, David, remains in Liberia until his health condition is cleared.

Getting more adamant in my geezerhood. Hard even for me to believe that I would be for anything limiting human expression or freedom of any sort. However.....

I would not be averse to setting up quarantine stations ala Ellis Island or former TB Sans for EVERYONE arriving from W. Africa either directly or via other countries, no matter their status as visitors, vacationing citizens, or med outreach etc. No matter their point of entry.

Just shut all contact down for at least two months.

This could be horrific, and already is in W. Africa.Do not want it here. Wish that procedure could be implemented throughout North, Central and South America.

There will be more Ebolas as humans further encroach into environs hosting previously isolated viruses or bacteria. We need better strategies.

many years ago-- is VERY concerned about this.

He's really glad we have no trips planned. He doesn't want to be
in airports or on planes.

I'm in agreement--but for very different reasons. I'm not so concerned about
Ebola, but I HATE traveling by plane these days.
