Holidays and such in last part of August

August 12: Vinyl Record Day
First declared such in 2002, Vinyl Record Day is held on the anniversary of when Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877.

August 15: Best Friends Day
you don't need an excuse to hang out with your best friend. But it can't hurt.

August 18: Bad Poetry Day
Sure, poetry is subjective. But some of it is just bad.

August 19: National Aviation Day
In 1939, Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Presidential Proclamation 2343 making August 19, Orville Wright’s birthday, National Aviation Day.

August 21: Poet’s Day
A day to soothe the bruised egos of Poets mocked just three days before.

August 24: Anniversary of Pluto’s demotion
Okay, this one isn't really a holiday. But Pluto deserves at least one day a year of remembrance.

August 26: National Dog Day
...also Women’s Equality Day. (Nothing - repeat - NOTHING intended here)

The National Dog Day Foundation supports all breeds and varieties of dogs and discourages purchasing from unethical backyard breeders and puppy mills; instead, support reputable breeders or adopt from rescue homes.
