U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara has warned the governor that communications with commissioners could be witness tampering or obstruction of justice. We urged the governor not to use that warning as a shield from public scrutiny and debate. We have heard several contradictory statements from the governor and from commissioners about his staff’s involvement with the body.

According to the governor, the Moreland Commission was a “phenomenal success” with “total independence.” Alarmingly, the rhetoric doesn’t seem to jibe with the facts.
New Yorkers need straight answers: Why was the Moreland Commission disbanded? Aren’t there still ethics issues in Albany to be worked out? Don’t we still need to end the unlimited campaign contributions from special interests that are corrupting our elections? New Yorkers deserve the truth. Tell Gov. Cuomo: give it to us straight!>>>>
