Walgreen drops on report it will keep US tax base

Shares of Walgreen Co. fell Tuesday on media reports that the nation's largest drugstore chain will not reincorporate itself overseas - a politically touchy move that could have significantly lowered its tax bill.

A company's value is roughly the net present value of all future earnings. If you just increased your tax bill, you lowered the value of the company.

5. Stock prices are not strictly rational.

They're arguably not even approximately rational. Stock prices of many other large retailers are also down at the moment. Investors collective judgement that Walgreen will be less profitable for keeping its headquarters in the United States might be responsible for the current price of its stock falling. Or not. Personally, I'm far more inclined to give my business to Walgreen after learning about their decision.

NOT the one where 6 people , the Waltons, have the same wealth as 120 million combined

you cant win this argument unless you think we have a fair system where that does exist

then you dont win the argument, you just expose yourself

10. Norway and Denmark are both thriving capitalist countries that are big on free trade.

So clearly it is not "capitalism" as such that you have an issue with. You are fine with capitalism when taxes are raised a bit in order to pay for more generous social benefits.

The differences and areas where they do NOT practice capitalism where we do are immense and you know that...

Capitalism, American style, is what has given us a situation where 6 people have the same amount of wealth as 120 million

NO SANE person thinks this is remotely OK

15. Again. These are capitalist countries with higher taxes and more generous social benefits than us.

If the US Congress raised the income tax rate by 15% to finance universal single payer health care and universal preschool, we would not magically become a non-capitalist country. We would be a capitalist country with universal healthcare and higher taxes.

We can play this game all day but the simple fact is the way we practice capitalism here has failed

that's not something that would ever fly. I'd like to see the vote on that in either Chamber.
