GOP lawmaker calls on Sarah Palin to lead new party to replace Republicans

A former California lawmaker and executive for the conservative social activist network the Council for National Policy is proposing that the Tea Party and Christian extremists form a third party to do to the GOP what the GOP did to the Whig Party and says that Sarah Palin should be its leader.
Right Wing Watch first reported on Steve Baldwins proposal to form a coalition between social and fiscal conservatives
around the issue of eliminating all federal abortion funding, reversing Roe vs. Wade (let the states fight it out), and prohibiting the Federal government from granting special rights to people based upon sexual behavior (laws that almost always infringe on our religious, property, and freedom of association rights).
Baldwin believes that Republicans in leadership positions have done little more than propose ways to manage socialism more effectively, and that the party establishment has done nothing but wage war on the Tea Party/conservative wing of the GOP, abusing extant infrastructure to favor RINO {Republicans In Name Only} candidates over conservatives. The most egregious instance of this, to Baldwins mind, was the partys support of Thad Cochran over Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel in the recent Mississippi primary race.
He acknowledges that it will be difficult to create a viable third party without the assistance of a stable of respected national conservative leaders such as Sarah Palin to lead the charge. Only with such aid will this party be able to create a compelling platform that will unite conservatives, libertarians, the Christian Right, and the Tea Party movement.
These groups all have their differences, he added, but I believe we can find a consensus on dozens of constitutional principles such as downsizing the federal government, balancing the budget, reforming entitlements, cutting taxes across the board, defense of the 2nd amendment, the elimination of earmarks and crony capitalism, the development of our natural resources for our energy needs and so forth.

(16,926 posts)The Know Nothing* movement was an American political movement that operated on a national basis during the mid-1850s. It promised to purify American politics by limiting or ending the influence of Irish Catholics and other immigrants, thus reflecting nativism and anti-Catholic sentiment. It was empowered by popular fears that the country was being overwhelmed by German and Irish Catholic immigrants, whom they saw as hostile to republican values and controlled by the Pope in Rome. Mainly active from 1854 to 1856, it strove to curb immigration and naturalization, but met with little success. Membership was limited to Protestant men. There were few prominent leaders, and the largely middle-class membership fragmented over the issue of slavery.

(19,565 posts)He want's to raise money for a third party, get people to sign pledges to vote with them, and not actually implement the party until they deem they have enough pledged voters to ensure Democrats won't win elections due to their splitting the vote up.
Totally a money making scam to exploit the simple minded Tea Party members. With the right band of merry grifters it could work.
I hear Ted Nugent has been through a rough spot recently in his employment. Maybe he'll sign on as the party leader if they can't get Sarah?

(11,175 posts)I found this thread about it and skimmed the comments. There's universal dissatisfaction with the Republican Party for being insufficiently conservative (!). The reactions to this are in two schools of thought: (1) Splitting lets the Democrats (i.e. socialists) win so we have to work to change the Republican Party from within; (2) we've been trying that change-from-within stuff and it hasn't worked (Jeb will be the 2016 nominee), so we must try something different.
Perhaps the most surprising thing is that some people are daring to be less than completely reverential toward every mention of the Half-Baked Alaskan. One FReeper writes: "Sarah Palin is not even a player. Geez I love her to bits and she is influential but she is no longer in the game."

(21,592 posts)Creating a formal third party would be the death of the teabaggers. You can't compete in elections in this country without a D or R next to your name. personally I hope they do it because if they split enough close races the democrat will wind up winning them
