Market Basket brass stopped paying managers yesterday a move the attorney general is closely monitoring and one a labor law expert said could prove illegal.

Just got back from the Customer Rally in Tewksbury, MA. Had to park 1/2 mile away because there were so many cars. People coming and going for hours. Huge crowd. Pics to follow.

(5,071 posts)My husband just got laid off yesterday; so I won't be able to put in much, but I'd like these people to know how much of the rest of the country stands with them.

(17,090 posts)And of course I hope they hang tough. That's easy to say though. Economic realities may make it very difficult for them.

The customer loyalty to ATD and the employees is a sight to see! Does the BOD have a clue?
I was there for a little while today with my elderly parents on our way back from an appointment. They have shopped at MB/DeMoulas FOREVER and I have for about 30 years. They can't walk very far so we were allowed to park in front of KMart and listen to the speakers for a while from my car. What a turnout! My parents have followed it all in the news and I've brought them groceries from other stores, but experiencing the protest in person was fairly surreal for them.
When I took mom in to Hannaford's across the street afterwards for a few items, she was not happy... at all!

(59,440 posts)I think Peter Jennings may have done something about it. After hearing some of the speakers today, the movement seems to be intensifying, so maybe national news will catch on. I'm surprised Ed Shultz hasn't cover it, but so far the workers have denied any union help. They seem to be doing this well all on their own. They believe a union might put a division between then and Artie T, and they don't want that.
