Former GOP Lawmaker Suggests Third Party Led By Sarah Palin

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published AUGUST 5, 2014, 12:28 PM EDT

Steve Baldwin, a conservative activist and former California State assemblyman, on Tuesday penned a detailed proposal for a third, ultra-conservative party.

He said the establishment GOP just isn't cutting it.

"We don’t want the GOP to pursue a 'socialism-lite' agenda. We want them to go on the warpath and do whatever it takes to stop the destruction of our constitutional Republic," Baldwin wrote in Barbwire, a conservative Christian site run by Liberty Counsel Action's VP Matt Barber. "It has become increasingly clear that the GOP leadership will do everything in its power to prevent the party from being influenced in any way by the Tea Party. I have given up on the GOP and am simply not sure it can ever be reformed."

He said that the new Third Party "will do to the GOP what the GOP did to the Whig Party 150 years ago: it will replace the GOP as the main party contesting the Democrat Party."

By all means, start a (yet another) 3rd party to represent the interests of the radical right. This time, do it right, spend lots of money on advertising, head it with artificial celebrities like Sarah Palin, and be very clear about the ultra-reactionary values they support.

It would do wonders for the GOP's electoral success.

Since the Republican party is already shedding members at its current level of insanity, we should expect the really, really, really insane version of the party to not do terribly well with membership.

and not just because it benefits Democrats politically. They are polarized so badly that the basic functions of government aren't getting handled because the House has ground everything to a halt. They should split for the good of the country and let the Republicans decide which Pied Piper they want to follow, the craven benighted ones or the batshit crazy craven benighted ones.

As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron. - H.L. Mencken

See Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush for precedents.

Barnum's Law "There is a sucker born every minute and two to take him";

Mencken's Law "It is impossible to go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American Public";

and Charles Pierce's Three Laws of Idiocy: (1) Any theory is valid if it sells books, soaks up ratings or otherwise moves units; (2) Anything can be true if someone says it loudly enough; and (3) Fact is that which enough people believe and truth is determined by how fervently they believe it

govern all of the modern US save for a few islands of liberal/left sanity like DU. And there are even some here who apply Pierce's Laws on a regular basis and expect not to get called on it.

Steve, my friend, Sarah is not a candidate for anything. She's someone skimming cream off the top of the big stupid money being thrown about in the GOP these days. Why would anyone of her political quality give that up to run (lose) on a third party ticket. She doesn't care about political causes, she cares about making $$$$ off stupid vain rich people.

And make the silver-tongued Half Governor the national chairperson.

That should fix everything...although not it the way the members of the new party might anticipate.

I hear a surprising number of Republicans wanting to vote third party and regurgitating the old "Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin" argument.

The greater the split within the Republican party, the greater the benefit to us. I'd love it if Sarah Palin or even someone like Ted Cruz ran on a third party platform in 2016.

It should be helpful in every close state and we will be able to hold the Senate, take back the House and change SCOTUS over the next 6 years, maybe even 10.
