Stephen Colbert paid homage to the 40th anniversary of Nixon's resignation by providing a satirical review of the former President's life and career, which built up to a segment titled "A Fond Look Back, '74."
Colbert's broadcast was set within the frame of a 1970s television set and featured a chain-smoking discussion of the Watergate scandal.
"On June 17, 1972, five men were arrested for breaking into the Democratic National Committee's headquarters at the Watergate Hotel," Colbert said. "Even worse they ate a Toblerone from the mini bar. Sticking the Democrats with a $22 service charge."
....
"What I love about Nixon is not only did he rehabilitate himself after he left, after Watergate, but he rehabilitated himself before he became President," Colbert said. "This man resurrected his career twice. Even Jesus only did it once."
