With decisions such as the HL and clinics/health care nationally one must wonder what some people perceive as an abortion. In the movie "Coma" from 1978 a young woman goes to the hospital. Not a clinic. We are seeing this as a major operation, which sadly does not end well.
This section of the film starts about 10 minutes in and runs for another 10, the scene ending with the doctor saying let's get this mother off the table. Wait a minute. That's the last disgrace, remember? She just had an abortion. She is not a mother.
So again, is this related to how some policies are looked at in this whole country?

(20,585 posts)but I think it is their own propaganda that keeps them reved up. They make up all kinds of things not based in reality, such as screaming fetuses.
What is real are the knitting needle, hanger abortions if they get their way - except for the wealthy of course.

(2,101 posts)how large is the demographic with this view? Some people hold their beliefs for a long time. What techniques could be used to change their beliefs? I am only using a single example above, the bigger question is which groups can dems win or lose based on the ability to displace long held beliefs?

(20,585 posts)I think one would have to really investigate the many networks that share this information. That would include the anti-abortion groups and their materials and churches that actively promote the anti-abortion view.
The changes that have come about are not because the majority of citizens support them but because the anti-abortion groups have planned legal challenges and legislation that pursues their goals. They have politicians that support them. They have played the long game and planned these initiatives for years.
In the early 70's there were stories of women who died from the illegal abortions - back alley, hangers, knitting needles, drinking poisons. A few doctors decided to do safe abortions in defiance of the law, which pushed the issue along. At that time there was a real concern for the safety of women. Not now.

(2,101 posts)leaving for Orlando in a few minutes, back in 2 days. Any movie from any decades previous is watched and compared to today, its more a matter of how relevant to current opinions the stereotypes and messages are. Sorry, but gotta go now.
