(297,272 posts)Just found out we're having a hurricane watch for the end of the week! Tim just called and asked if I had plenty of water and batteries stocked up..
"LIHUE Hurricane Iselle is on a track toward Hawaii and could bring heavy rain and strong winds if it hits the islands later this week.
But the National Weather Service said Sunday its likely the category 3 hurricane will lessen by the time it reaches the islands if it does at all and its no certainty it will continue its current track Hawaii-bound.
We cant say with precision, with certainty, where its going to be at that exact time, said Derek Wroe, NWS lead forecaster in Honolulu. (But) were expecting a much weaker system to approach the island.
Iselle was reported as a major category 3 hurricane in the Eastern Pacific Sunday morning with sustained winds of 115 mph. The storm, about 1,495 miles east of Hilo, was moving west at 12 mph at 5 a.m. Hawaii time. That put it on track to be about 70 miles east-southeast of Hilo, on the Big Island, Thursday evening as a weakening tropical storm, before possibly continuing on to Oahu by Friday. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser warned residents to be prepared to face inclement weather if they head out to vote in Saturdays primary election."

Hopefully it won't do any damage if it makes landfall.. but, just in case we have to be prepared.

(83,785 posts)I do have my hurricane lamps filled with oil.... however I really should buy a flashlight and a cheap radio. Last time my cousin from Calif. was texting me updates. I could only do that for so long before the battery died.
Keep me informed please. Be safe.

(297,272 posts)hurricane Iniki on 9/11/92.. that's why the thought of a hurricane drives terror in our hearts. Took us 5 years to rebuild. That time I didn't find out until 5am the morning of(all the water and batteries were sold off the shelves).. this time I have a few days. I have about 10 gallons of extra water.. and lots of batteries with a flashlight and a battery operated lantern.
Have to get some food that doesn't require refrigeration and respect the power of Mother Nature!
