I was reading the Toledo Blade, the main newspaper in the area affected by the water toxins from Lake Erie in Ohio. Here's a quote from him in an article about the disaster:
Mr. Kasich said the costs of Lake Erie pollution are an eye-opener but that wont change his vision of being a pragmatic leader who considers himself a staunch defender of Lake Erie even if he doesnt see eye-to-eye with environmental lobbyists on every issue.
My thinking isnt reshaped because I consider myself an environmentalist, he said. I love Lake Erie. Our jobs not to worship it. Our jobs to take care of it.

Being a republican means you can never give up your BS, even in a crisis. What a stupid statement. It must be such a travesty to him that some people want to make sure we don't destroy their main source of fresh water.

(3,033 posts)Our mayor, an Independent, (long story), said at the press conference today that the fighting between the parties has got to stop, they have to work together or we're doomed. He said it's like trying to get feral cats to form a parade. Our mayor has many issues with Kasich, but they did work together to get things done here. We had drinking water the same day we were told not to drink it.
Kasich did furnish planes and helocopters to fly the samples all over Ohio and Michigan. But his press conference yesterday was a joke. I can't stand him. He was bought and paid for by the gambling honchos.

(3,033 posts)If you were to ask my opinion, it was a false positive and he freaked out and put out the warning. None of the other out of town and out of state labs could verify the high number. Satellite photos are showing the algae is growing, so the number should be higher, since the algae bloom is directly over our intake. I'm not a scientist, but no one got sick. They got the high number Friday evening, and there were 500,000 plus people and animals consuming the water for 12 hours with no illnesses? Not even one?
I would have probably done the same, though, erring on the side of caution. I suppose we'll never know, but keeping all those reports so close to the vest was the tip-off to me. Marcy Kaptur spilled the beans, then clammed up for good.
Today we were told to flush out our water pipes and appliances for 5 minutes. Come on. Something that deadly and only 5 minutes?

(3,033 posts)is the secrecy. I'm not alone, apparently:

If it indeed was a false positive, out with it, people appreciate honesty. And if it would come out later, it would be worse.
I forgot to mention that on Monday, they found the piece of equipment that removes algae wasn't working, so we were asked to conserve water, which I do anyway. The equipment is fixed now. Makes me wonder if that was the problem the whole time, and I'm sure we'll never know.

(4,973 posts)but I'll take his word for it that the info should have been disseminated across the emergency broadcast system. I sure got the message though and I don't live in Ohio anymore.
