The public intellectual and controversial atheist thinks the man waging war on Gaza is a paragon of peaceELIAS ISQUITH
During an interview published on Friday by Israel HaYom, the Sheldon Adelson-backed Israeli daily, public intellectual and author Ayan Hirsi Ali claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for waging ongoing military campaign by the IDF against Hamas militants in Gaza.
Asked whom she admired, Ali who once called Islam a nihilistic cult of death included Netanyahu on a list featuring her husband, Harvard professor Niall Ferguson, as well as former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Princeton professor Bernard Lewis. Ali said she admired Netanyahu because he is under so much pressure, from so many sources, and yet he does what is best for the people of Israel, he does his duty.
I really think he should get the Nobel Peace Prize, Ali added. In a fair world he would get it.
Ali isnt the only prominent supporter of Israels war to make the provocative Nobel Peace Prize claim. Recently, the Israeli ambassador to the U.S., Ron Dermer, said the nations army, the Israeli Defense Forces, similarly deserved global acclaim for the unimaginable restraint with which its waged its attacks on Hamas.

(3,231 posts)Her issues stem from being born female in Somalia and everything that comes along with that. At least I think that's where he hatred of Islam comes from. Can't say I blame her - I might feel the same way if I lived the life she has, but she is too public a figure to let her issues overcome her humanity. People listen when she speaks. If you're carrying that much baggage, see a shrink so you can life a life of happiness instead of hatred - and spreading hatred.
I disagree with pretty much everything fundamentalist Islam (and all fundamentalist religions) stands for, but that doesn't mean I hate the people on a human level. I can disagree with everything she says and yet still feel empathy for her. I can be 100% against Israel's actions in Gaza and still not be on Hamas' side.

(33,688 posts)Allegedly Kissinger hasn't been able to travel freely for years because there are many places in the world where he would be thrown in irons as a war criminal. Netanyahu is headed in the same direction.

(89,250 posts)some anti muslim/arab ?
i know people like her . they seem easily swayed and always take the more extreme positions. i knew one guy who was a right winger and than turned into some far left type/conspiracy theorist type.
in both cases it's like they have some need to view the world in black and white and the more extreme position they take the better they are.

(3,231 posts)Not a great place to be born female. Still no excuse for her. She has some issues with the culture she left, a great many of them born of first hand experience. Before she became so far right wing I read her autobiography. She's a very intelligent person, but I still think she has issues with Islam - which is to be expected, obviously. My only problem with her working through her issues is that her opinions are given a lot of consideration. So, deal with your (general your) baggage however you want, but having some pretty heavy baggage doesn't give you the right to oppress other people (on a large or small scale)

As a teenager - that's part of BEING RAISED - and people are pretty easy to influence as teenagers. Not to mention that surviving a system of systematic oppression of women leads to a lot of women in those systems to figure out a way to survive, and to some, that means becoming them.

(1,701 posts)She should look at some of the pictures that are on Twitter of the dead babies and mangled bodies of children before she makes a statement like that. Good lord, isn't what the people of Gaza have been going through enough, do they have to be subjected to this insult, too???
