Cliven Bundy claims the Lord told him to fight a civil war against the feds

Bundy, a Mormon, told an Independent American Party gathering in St. George, Utah, on Saturday that God provided him personal inspiration in the showdown over cattle in Bunkerville, Nevada, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

"The Lord told me ... if (the local sheriff doesn't) take away these arms from federal agents, we the people will have to face these arms in a civil war. He said, 'This is your chance to straighten this thing up,'" Bundy said, according to The Spectrum of St. George (http://bit.ly/1pRx8nq ).

2th. The way to deal with insurrection is the following. All law enforcement personnel withdraw. The regular armed forces of the United States surround his yuck hole. Armed forces should be equipped for desert operations, with armored fighting vehicles, artillery and air support. All utilities from the outside are cut off. All communications with the outside are cut off. An officer goes in with a flag of truce. He informs the insurrectionists that they are to come out with their hands up, unarmed, and they will receive decent treatment. If they do not, "Then we will come in. We will not come in behind pepper spray and tear gas, we will come in behind artillery barrages and air strike."

If Bundy does not surrender, the military goes in. Anyone with a gun in their hand is taken as an insurrectionist, tried for sedition and hanged if convicted. Anyone attempting to aid them is put down by force, tried and hanged. The authority of the US government is at stake. If a yuck like Bundy is allowed to do it, others will try.

The history of that cult is the story of bunch to true believers who left the United States and created their own sovereign nation - Deseret - in what was the Utah Territory. They had their own money, their own language, and their own army - the Navoo Militia. The early years in Utah (1850s) were filled with numerous skirmishes with US troops and the notorious Mountain Medows Massacre where 120 settlers, men women and children, traveling through area were slaughtered and buried by the Mormons.

My point? Raised in "the faith" Cliven is well aware of the heroic tales of Gods Soldiers. He is no doubt some daffy old fuck but it's important to understand the context. His actions are informed by the early years of the "saints" in the "promised land."
