Terrific news: Marine dog who was to be put down saved. Will live with Marine he was blown up with.

Great story, great photos

After years of administrative battle a military dog handler was finally reunited with her loyal friend.

Former Marine Cpl. Megan Leavey was told in March that she would be allowed to give a home to Sgt. Rex, the german shepherd she spent two military tours serving with.

On Friday night the two were brought back together again in an emotional ceremony at Camp Pendleton’s K-9 Unit which marked the end of Rex's ten-year service.

The pair served two tours in Iraq together and were both were injured by a roadside bomb in 2006. Leavey retired after being injured but Rex remained in service.

This dog served his country and deserves the same respect as any other Veteran Glad they reunited. I have had 3 German sheperds and they are 100% loyal and very smart.

I saw an interview with her. I couldn't believe that they wanted to take the dog away and put it to sleep. I'm glad that all turned out well for her and for Rex.
