fruits rather exotic looking, especially the eggplant- the potato had a cute baby hippo look to it - and the carrot, well... that's just too phallic by the factor of one. Ah, the French - C'est la vie.

Excellent idea! I would really love to see this happen in this country on a large scale.

Every year I have a few forked carrots, tomatoes and eggplants with "noses" and other appendages, squat or gangly cucumbers or summer squashes plus a few curled like snakes, winter squashes with gnarly blanched sections where they were in contact with the ground, round lemons, oranges with complex navels, plums with deep folds, etc.

They all taste as good as their market-perfect brethren.

It occurred to me that these fruits and vegetables are just as nutritionist and tasty as the "standard" kind and cost less, this would be a no-brainier. And for those that are concerned, all it would take is some of these ingredients to be made into Salsa, Stew and Chili bases, and similar items placed in a pot with rice or noodles, cream soup, and some crust all around to make Quiche-type dishes, pot pies, even cobblers. If I had access to all of this, I could whip up something good, and I am NOT A CHEF or even chef-trained. I did have years of experience in university food service where stretching food based on meal plans is a way of life.

This is brilliant and a great post! Kicking for more recognition. I think it's time to start a movement in this country.

if we really wanted to take a stab at food waste (spending calories) we'd just stop eating meat.

I guess maybe after appearance we can tackle that one.
