New York City police are investigating a Google engineer for an alleged string of sexual assaults. Justin Chan was arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court Tuesday over charges springing from the latest allegation: raping a 19-year-old woman in his East Village apartment. According to the New York Post, Chan, 28, met the victim in Union Square and persuaded her to go to his E. 12th St. apartment.
There, the two took a shot of booze, but when the victim told Chan she wanted to leave, he forcibly threw up on top of his bed and held her down.
The Daily News reports that prosecutors believe this was not the engineer's first assault.
"Although the defendant doesn't have a criminal history, he has numerous complaints of sexual assault against (him) which are being investigated at this time," a prosecutor told Justice Charles Solomon on Tuesday.

(20,762 posts)I mean, she's not underage, so does it matter whether she's nineteen, twenty, thirty... whatever?
I'm trying to parse out why her being 19 is so important they have to mention it in the head AND the lead.

(43,890 posts)That rape is rape, no matter the age.
Unartfully though it may have been expressed.

(20,762 posts)Granted, there's an additional level of criminal disgustingness to raping underage people, but is it more newsworthy to rape a 19-year-old than to rape a 32-year-old?
What's up with that?

(20,762 posts)So I can understand that.
If it were here, it might be "LANL Engineer charged etc..."
Local connection in local reportage. Not relevant but understandable.
Not getting the age thing, is all.
Curiously,

(32,886 posts)and rape her on top of vomit? That just adds a new dimension of horror and depravity to what is already a horrific and depraved act.

(321 posts)"threw her on the bed" and not "threw up on the bed". The person who wrote the article did not proof read the piece before he/she published it. That really gets me when I read what are supposedly major news sites and they have stupid errors like that.

(7,800 posts)This is worthy of discussion, of course. But it's insane how every post is from the same poster.

Also Apple is Google's only competitor, although 95% of Google's income is from ads in web searches, while Apple's business is 95% hardware and software.
Oh, and I am 'insane.'
Good to know.

(321 posts)Some people are fan boys of one thing, some of another. So this guy doesn't like Google..... the best search engine in the world...... or probably Android phones... the best phone OS in the world....... but that's ok. To each their own. I'm gonna go Google something now........

(32,886 posts)She wasn't just raped, but raped pinned down on top of vomit. What a horrific experience.
And what kind of person thinks to do that? This guy is a real monster.

(13,184 posts)Oh, it's not about rape at all, but about some poster's anti-Google obsession.
