Skinner & EarlG-- Time to update the GD "Big News Exceptions?"

Because I wandered on in here, and looked down the page one list of topics and saw an awful lot of these words:

"Israel"
"Gaza"
"Palestine"

So, thinks I, we must have a current exception on that, here in GD, and I can make my remark about how unnerving it is to contemplate Israel these days. For me, looking at Israel now is like watching Charlie Brown make a run at the football, with Lucy holding it, and instead of kicking the football, he brutally kicks Lucy in the head, killing her and/or brain damaging her for life. I'm all, like, "WTF?? This isn't the Charlie Brown I know!" And yeah, I guess it hasn't really been that way for awhile, but... just sayin', yanno?

Anyway, I'm about to post that, but I figure I'll do a double-check before I do.

And no, there are no exceptions in the pinned forum purpose post, so... maybe the forum hosts are supposed to be moving suchlike posts along to I/P?

Except, obviously, they're not...

...and maybe they shouldn't be...

...but it would be nice to know for sure.

Guys? Elad? Anybody?

Or is this too "meta-y?

Should I have posted this in AtA?

Help me, someone, I'm so confused...

curiously,
Bright

My bad. I thought "unless there is really big news" meant "when the news is really big enough we'll update the "big news exceptions" thingie.

But it apparently doesn't mean that, which is fine.

And, to clarify, I have to say that were I any of our Admins I would probably have done exactly that, because, yeah, the news is really big, and people want to discuss it, and GD is where that goes down and so I'd be completely cool with having the exception activated now.

Just wasn't sure how that worked, and now I guess I know more about that.

Sort of.

tentatively,
Bright

Hundreds are shot in America each day.

That's not 'big news,' apparently.

Nor is domestic terrorists on our streets, threatening families.

"The reason there are posts about Israel/Palestine in GD right now...

...is because there is a very serious conflict occurring there at the moment, so members want to talk about it."

There are actually TWO kinds of "big news exceptions" for the GD forum, the kind that have to be explicitly noted in the Big News Exceptions pinned post, and the kind that don't.

And if you're not sure which kind a particular posting topic falls under at any given moment, you can ask in ATA.

Is that about it?

hopefully,
Bright

I think the Exceptions note should be changed to state this as not all DUers read ATA and I suspect the hosts of GD are getting numerous SOP alerts on the I/P threads.

is getting approved by juries because it masquerades as criticism of policy.

And, no I'm not talking about "the IDF are war criminals" I'm talking about "all Jews everywhere are abandoning their morals"
