Does happiness index reveal much of Mitch McConnel's problem with voters?

One map represents sentiments in the middle of the last decade the other was published by The Atlantic as part of a story on LeBron James going back to Cleavland earlier this month.

I really don't know anything about the 'happiness index', and I don't know when the data for that map was collected, but the southern US while seemingly happier than I expected, if the Atlantic's map is recent, may be experiencing a waning of happiness. But that's not tanking as it might seem in Kentucky and Indiana.
