My freshman Poli-Sci professor, George Peek, on the first day

of class related what he called the two most important truisms of American Government and Politics:

1) The Constitution and the Law is whatever the Supreme Court says it is; and

2) Perception is much more important in electoral politics than reality.

As I think about this some 41 years later, he was right. And that is still accurate today.
