Imagine if Obama had waited for 4 days before making a statement.

Like Reagan did in the case of KAL 007.

WALLACE: I was covering Ronald Reagan at that time. He was in Santa Barbara at his ranch when that happened, and quite frankly he didn't want to leave. And his advisers realized how terrible this looked, and eventually persuaded him he had to fly back to Washington and had to give this speech to the nation, but it did take him four days.

-----------------------

The Washington Post published a full timeline on September 4, 1983, detailing Reagan's response, which revealed that Reagan had no intention to return early to Washington from his vacation, even with various news organizations reporting that the Korean airliner had been shot down by the Soviets, and instead planned to "horseback ride." Reagan read a brief statement in response to the situation the day following the attack but didn't deliver his first major address until several days later, after he'd returned to Washington. From The Washington Post (accessed 7/18/14 via Nexis):

Imagine the right-wing outrage if President Obama had followed the same course as Saint Ronnie the Feeble-minded, instead of making a strong statement the following day, after getting some actual facts about the incident. Would they have been any more charitable to him if he had flown off the handle with the initial reports of 20+ Americans on the plane, made statements based on erroneous information which was then found to be wrong? He made *exactly* the right decisions in this case, and deserves full credit for those decisions.

he will always be attacked and ridiculed, no matter what he says or when he said it. We have almost 6 years worth of proof of that.

He could have avoided the missile, or flown all those people on Air Force One. But no, he's a coward so says John Magoo.

They have never let the facts get in the way of a good story before, why should they start now?

like that and people actually don't check it out. It's shameful in the age of the internet. But not surprising. Sadly.

Reagan not only did not address the nation, he never apologized for a U.S. Navy ship that shot down a commercial airliner and killed 290 aboard, and he gave the Captain the Legion of Merit and the crew the Navy Commendation medal, while paying $131 million in settlement. Many have said the way he treated the incident led to the Lockerbie tragedy.
