Former US Senator Wendell Ford has lung cancer...

Wendell Ford, former U.S. senator and former governor of Kentucky, announced Friday that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has begun undergoing chemotherapy treatments in Owensboro.

Ford, 89, said that he recently was diagnosed with a malignancy in one lung that has started spreading.

I used to drive by his house occasionally. Never met him though. People that knew him liked him a lot.

I was in the grocery store one afternoon; and being in a hurry, I was rushing down the aisles, grabbing what I needed. I soon found that in each aisle that I went down, an elderly man was in my way. I complained under my breath about the hindrance.
After a few encounters with him, I realized he was Wendell Ford. Feeling guilty, I approached him and asked if he was the senator. He turned to me and said, "Why, yes, I am. And that's just one of the many things that I've been called by people." I forgot all about being in a hurry as I spent several minutes talking to him.

But, that said, I hope he finds some good help.

I've lost a very close family member to lung cancer and it was just horrible.
