I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night,
alive as you and me.
Says I "But Joe, you're ten years dead"
"I never died" said he,
"I never died" said he.
"The Copper Bosses killed you Joe,
they shot you Joe" they filled you full of lead.
"Takes more than guns to kill a man"
Says Joe "I didn't die"
Says Joe "I didn't die"
"In Salt Lake City, Joe," says I,
Him standing by my bed,
"They framed you on a murder charge,"
Says Joe, "But I ain't dead,"
Says Joe, "But I ain't dead."
And standing there as big as life
and smiling with his eyes.
Says Joe "What they can never kill
went on to organize,
went on to organize"
From San Diego up to Maine,
in every mine and mill,
Where working men defend their rights,
it's there you'll find Joe Hill,
it's there you'll find Joe Hill!
I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night,
alive as you and me.
Says I "But Joe, you're ten years dead"

OP
That video was much better if they hadn't screwed the lyrics up trying to be funny.

(15,429 posts)13. It was a cut down version, too.
It was from the 2 1/2 hour version of Woodstock, then they added the crap.
The full version of Joe Cocker at Woodstock is incredible.

(85,998 posts)5. It was a great crowd, the day of our anti-war march
I was up front behind Cindy and Jesse, next to Cornell West. What a day. We came through the trees after we had done the round past the White House and Joan Baez was singing Joe Hill. I swear I thought I had been transported back in time. Lots of young folks that day. I thought they must have experienced something energizing and lasting.

(34,589 posts)7. Joe Hill was not sensible.
He didn't understand how complex the world was. And it still is, of course.

(18,494 posts)14. also the pen name of Stephen & Tabitha King's son
Hill chose to use an abbreviated form of his given name (a reference to executed labor leader Joe Hill, for whom he was named) in 1997, out of a desire to succeed based solely on his own merits rather than as the son of Stephen King.
