Open letter to the Obama Haters from an anonymous source:To your distress, for most of the rest of your life, you will bear this:
That Barack Obama, whether re-elected or not, will always be President.
He will always be the man from a mixed race background that became the President of the US, he and his wife will be welcomed throughout the world by nations and their leaders, the most influential members of the arts and sciences will be their acquaintances and companions.
He will be regarded and honored as the President who entered office during a deep recession and two wars and turned the country around.
You will always justify your lack of achievement on the unfairness of every system, your lack of success on the government or regulation, and your failure to accomplish anything in a country where impoverished immigrants with limited language skills are succeeding around you on the liberals or the communists or the elites.
The small satisfaction you garner while spouting derisive comments here only exists in your self-delusion and is a pale comfort compared to the reality that exists around you.
You can try to salve your bitter existence with theories of international Kenyan plots or document fraud, whatever.
But that is your future.
Your world will always be limited by your small-mindedness, your associates only those that are as poorly adapted to the world around them, your accomplishments non-existent and your life a bitter existence.
It's time to move on.
In your journey into denial, you've already sacrificed your conscience and whatever claim to character you had.
Your pretense at a deity derived morality is mocked by your myopic hatred of the 'other'.
Your concept of patriotism is waving a child's flag on the sidelines as others defend your liberty.
Bush 41 and spouse are living into their nineties, the Obama's will too. You'll see them at the inaugurals, your TV will tell you of their lives and that of their daughters, of their successes and their trips and the books they write and their accolades.
Make it easy on yourself.
Take a deep cleansing breath and just let go, make the best of your situation.
Whether re-elected or not, he will always be the 44th President of the US, and your children and their children will read of him in their history books, the first black man elected president of the US.
If not re-elected, he will be healthier and wealthier than he is as President, but he is willing to make that sacrifice for you.
You still live in a free country made more safe and prosperous by your President, and he, the First Lady and their children will always have you in their prayers. "
Taking America forward instead of taking America back.

I hope they stick with that genius motto of theirs!
Like the more they say "Obamacare" the more it sounds like Ooops! No wait, Obama Cares!? noooooo, but that's not what voters are supposed to think! lol

(16,646 posts)Very similar things were said about Bush II. Of course, they were written before the end of his second term and the total economic collapse. And they emphasized things like "kept you safe" and "fearless leadership" and such drivel.

(71,611 posts)... and totally baseless propaganda. We have a disturbing habit of making superficial false-equivalencies and engaging in "they did it too" protestations ... something that was old and hollow even when I was an 8-year-old.

(16,646 posts)The basic claim that he'll always be president is the underlying theme from which these start. This has the added twist of "he'll always be the first black president" too. After that, it is just as much "propoganda" to the intended audience since it is based upon a presumption that he'll be viewed favorably in the future. That presumption doesn't stand up to history much since presidents fall in and out of favor as time goes by, most being just plain forgotten. I will say this, with some notable exceptions, the more presidents were "hated" during their time in office, they tend to get much better reviews afterwards. FDR is probably thought of better today than in his first two terms. God knows Jefferson is treated much better today than during his time in office. Alternately, those that came out favorably tended to diminish over time. Wilson has slowly sunk over the decades. LBJ has probably experienced somewhat of a resurgence of late. So has Eisenhower, probably more among progressives than the GOP.
That thought would probably be most irritating to the intended audience. The more they hate him, the better off he'll look.

(140 posts)... history will always have a fond memorable place for him for generations to come.
Bush jr. is -already- being swept under the rug... hoping to be forgotten.. and taking the family name with him.
Good Riddance

(16,646 posts)Look at his reputation, and compare it to his acts. You might be surprised. Yes, Obama may ultimately be remembered "fondly" because "we" chose to elect him when many of "us" thought we never would. However, much like Washington, it may not mean much to "historians" who pay more attention to what he "did' as oppose to what he "was". It may take 2 generation but compare both what Eisenhower, and Carter are represented today and it may be instructive how future generations judge our judgements.
Well said.

(6,829 posts)This country is arguably less free than twelve years ago.
Remember, 9-11 changed everything.
We should do an inventory on the state of our remaining constitutional rights. Although, to be fair, how could our Constitutional Fathers have had the foresight to give government the power to strip search for a broken tail light? they didn't have tail lights in the 1700's! Or even electricity!
The OP is thought provoking and worthwhile

(32,139 posts)Some highlights, just from the past few months:
*signed NDAA/"reluctantly" approved indefinite detention
*claimed the right to assassinate American citizens
*pressured state attorneys general for settlements for corrupt banks
*signed authorization to proliferate military drones in American airspace and adapt them for civilian/police use
*sent attorneys all the way to the Supreme Court to argue for the right to surveil using GPS without a warrant (thankfully this one was defeated)
*sent DOJ attorney to the Supreme Court to argue for the right to strip search all arrestees even in the absence of suspicion. (They won this one)
*new, mammoth spy center planned under his administration for collecting email, phone calls, and internet activity of Americans
*Signed ACTA and then tried to hide it from the American press by claiming "national security"
*Currently engaging in backroom negotiations to revive SOPA (per Chris Dodd's own report)
*new "JOBS" bill that is a right-wing gift to corporations
That's just a small sampling of recent news.
So....what can you cite from recent months, that will actually help?

(32,139 posts)No way to deny the list of assaults I posted, and no response when I ask for significant recent actions *for* the people.
You have nothing except desperate lashing back with nonsense accusations and denying the serious, serious problem in our party. *Of course* Obama is better than Romney. You can do a search of my posts and see that I and others have written that many, many times. That's what's so convenient for the one percent.
It is so easy to get people to vote for right-wing, corporate, neocon, and police state policies when the only other candidate promises even WORSE right-wing, corporate, neocon, and police state policies. You see how that works?
We have a serious problem in our party when we are repeatedly fed vague, flowery, flag-waving posts about patriotism and America, but requests for evidence of significant recent policy on behalf of the people are met with vitriol and personal attacks. We have seen this happen before when a party was purchased for the one percent. This happened to the Republican party some time ago.
Now, how do you stop it?
By not playing along anymore. By standing up against right-wing, corporate, neocon, police state policies no matter who is pushing them. And by pushing the one who is supposed to represent the people into actually representing the people. We have to demand that the money come out of politics, and we have to clearly label what is happening to us. That's called being a real Democrat, and how you save the Democratic Party.
But then, you knew that.

(6,161 posts)The HUGE LONG list of his accomplishments? That's like dismissing ALL of FDRs accomplishments because he rounded up American citizens and put them in internment camps, or because his New Deal legislation didn't include blacks or women.

(6,335 posts)the writer would know this exactly how? And the writer is certain enough that his/her subjects are immune from the ordinary vicissitudes of humanity s/he can declaratively state that the Obamas will live into their 90's?
I would guess this was written by a very earnest adolescent, or a precocious twelve year old.

(30,058 posts)By voting out the writers of 70 bills introduced in different states in their war on women. We don't need their sharia law imposed on this great nation.
We also need to admit Obama is in his position because he has the ability to run this nation. Get out and vote.
