(2,805 posts)Back when he had his " This DU member has chosen to ignore your posts" signature line, I got tired of being insulted so put him on ignore. When I finally got the joke, I took him off ignore. So am I good or a bit too petulant?

(2,805 posts)It worked perfectly on this board. It was bright and bold enough to be impossible to miss so it was easy for it to nag at you. I let it go for weeks but eventually it really started to annoy me and I gave in to my basest instincts. Kudos to Orrex and his dry sense of humor!
Thanks for giving me a pass.

(34,582 posts)I didn't ignore him, but for weeks I was wondering why he had chosen to ignore me. Then, I happened to respond to something he said, I said "Aren't you ignoring me?"- he sent me a PM and clued me in.

(4,761 posts)..I cut my teeth in the 90s on a forum that had no moderation whatsoever - the only control is by randomly chosen users scoring posts, the scale goes from -1 to +5 and while you're given the tools to filter out the lower scored posts, it's impossible to actually delete or hide a post. If you don't like somebody, well, don't read their drivel.
And that's why I still think Slashdot is the best board ever, and Slashcode the best software (sorry!).

Then I fought against Cantor. I live in his district and feel the pain. Certain DUers fought against me so they met my ignore list.
Once you have one, it's easier to gain a second and so on.

(28,276 posts)I've used the feature several times since, and I don't regret it in the least. There are people who aren't interested in anything approaching a meaningful debate, they are here to disrupt and cause trouble, and such individuals are not entitled to rent space in your head. That's what the "Ignore" function is for. I recommend it.

(13,616 posts)Ignore is often the only way to make sure that lynch mobbers do nto serve on your jury. If the jury system here was trashed (and I will pop champagne on that day) than I could consider easing up on the ignore, though some people frnakly do nto want debate, they want to bully.

(58,237 posts)That feature was provided by the Admins. No one should be criticized for using DU features to improve their DU experience.
I don't use ignore or hide thread, but that's my choice. It doesn't make me any more or less open minded than anyone else.

(54,445 posts)I had to look up "account" to even see HOW to put someone on ignore. I remember once finding that someone had me on ignore, but I've forgotten where to look for that, and in any case, I'm less concerned about it than I am about what happened to last week's garbage.
I'm less enthusiastic about hearing "every" side of every debate, as some things I see on here are patently ridiculous, and some posts are clearly put up here to offend and put down, but I ignore the post, not the poster. You never know when someone you previously thought was a total waste of time might come up with something completely brilliant.
