I guess I have made a few friends and enemies along the way?

We were fighting to save our country after the election of 2000 was stolen. We did not want and did not need any more conservative talking points. We had had enough.

and checked it out. When she told me that DU needed some writers, I started writing editorials (or posts) around the end of March and first of April of 2001 under my real name. Later, I decided to write anonymously as "kentuck". I have taken hiatuses 3 or 4 times. It just got to heavy to carry. And the site has gone thru several changes, maybe not all for the best, but has continued to be an open forum for progressive thinkers for a long time.

there are at least 40

Although there were what, 10,000 registrations in the first year? Or 5,000?

Some long timers got the axe. Was Carlos "one of us"? Or Mr. Benchley?

Not sure if either of them joined in 2001, and of course, I did not join then either.

I remember in 2006 searching archives and would read a post and think "what a great post, wonder what happened to that person" and would find them tombstoned.

Usually though, when I tried to discover why somebody I thought was a great DUer was tombstoned, I would find a good solid reason for it. That, for one reason or other, they lost it and crossed the line. But some of them did come back under different names.

My handle is the name of my Siamese cat who loved to sit on lap in front of computer. I was new to the internet and didn't think of a clever name. I was joked about for long time in the early days on DU for being mistaken for KoKo the "signing" gorilla or being a troll who signed up as a signing gorilla to post nonsense. Also, I made the mistake of not going to the "DU Lounge" to introduce properly introduce myself. That was a big "no..no." That was probably part of the "KoKo" problem in those early days.

Once awake, its impossible to go back to sleep. I still read everyday but I have little patience with cheerleaders and willful ignorance..so I post less and recognize that both democrats and republicans are bought and paid for with very few exceptions. I am deeply appreciative of those duers who keep justice and truth at the front. I would have left long ago but then someone like Koko, Marmar, DeSwiss, Willy T, Catherina and MANY others posts something that knocks me out and I stay. I have huge appreciation for your fortitude and am inspired always to be and do more than I ever thought possible.

Get frustrated sometimes and have watched good people come and go. My take is the same on both Bush and the NSA--to hell with the lot. Not frightened of either and firmly hold that no one on earth can force you to change the ideas that you hold. Only you can do that, which is I why I find the browbeating so tedious.

PS. Have never changed my user name either in any iteration of DU.

I had one post deleted in DU1, for calling Carlos Jiacinto an asshole and telling him to fuck off.
