PC, Mac & Linux Users - a simple check to see if you have a Botnet.

http://botnetchecker.com/

Posted by Apple Support, in response to the JAVA exploit "BackDoor.Flashback.39" which affects platforms with JAVA installed.

If you are using No Script, you may have to disable it before using the test.

Android & iOS employ fully sandboxed browsers, so it's unlikely in the first place. There's no JAVA is iOS, so that rules this class of exploit out

The main issues are bandwidth and slowing everything else down. If you are unlucky enough to be co-opted in an attack on, say, the DoD, there is an vanishing small possibility that the NSA will use the same protocols to have a look at you.

...do whatever they want with your computer.

Common uses include stealing any valuable information on the computer, stealing your logins to web sites, sending spam, and using your internet connection to overload a web site (called a DDoS or "Distributed denial of service" attack)

They check your current IP address. For about 99% of Internet users, their IP address will change regularly. So their new address may not show up in their database and thus it will say they don't have a bot when they do.

Also, those IP addresses are recycled. So if someone had a bot, and then I later got their IP address, then this tool would say I have a bot even though I don't.

That page says that 25% of computers are infected, yet nobody here is. Are we special, or what?
