Even my beloved small town Iowa, where what were once well kept single family homes are falling to neglect. The cost of maintenance is just too high for a retired person whose pension was stolen by some corporate raider, or for some young family scraping by Walmart wages.

Where once thriving local businesses are shuttered in a once bustling downtown while Walmart sits at the edge of town not paying taxes to the small town they have ruined. Local manufacturers and dairies and gas and service stations have been run out of business by national competitors.

So an aging population watches as their life dream falls apart along with their houses, while the rich and well off move to McMansions on the edge of town or move to the suburbs of of bigger cities.

It is so so sad.

So you know, it's sad, but you get the government you deserve, and if you vote GOP, you're gonna get screwed.

The world is filled with former human habitations, now abandoned or nearly so. Most probably have similar stories of neglect, or disasters of various sorts before abandonment.
