Do you ever get so sick of it that you have to ignore a story or the news as a whole?

I already do not watch anything that is called "news" on tv. I check a couple of sites daily to make sure the planet isn't on fire (or at least that the flames aren't moving in my direction). Some days I actively avoid the web and the news just because it's all so overwhelming if you let it get to you.

Recently I've just stopped paying attention or having an opinion on certain stories. That list keeps growing as it seems that it just keeps piling up.

The kids/border/refugee/protests story from South Texas... Yes I realize it's bad, but I can't give that story free rent in my head. Call me evil, or whatever, but the outcome will not change if I gnash my teeth on it or not.

Am I alone on this? I'll take any and all non-responses as evidence of others getting sick of it (along with my post about the negativity).

check this out...or some of the other Group Sites for International News/Foreign Affairs. Not as frenetic as the DU Forums...and you can pick and choose.

Nice "Progressive Links" and some Current Articles that you can take time to read when you want about issues...

Have 'ignored' Israel/Palestine for a long time, got 'back in' when a high school friend asked a question, I responded, and others followed, some disagreed with me. I didn't respond. Too much.

It's time for many stories, some that broke a YEAR ago to go on the back burner or go away completely.

There are some headlines that repeat themselves every other day and frankly it gets quite annoying.

There are certain subjects that are so depressing to me that I just can't involve myself with them. It's not that they are not important to me; my mental well-being just won't allow it.

Then there are issues that I just get tired of hearing about and don't feel like fighting about them any more. I took a few weeks off from DU last month because I just got sick of one particular group that does its best to drag anyone and everyone into a fight. Since I would never deal with these people in real life, I don't feel the obligation to share my online world with them either.

I always tune out any of those sensationalized crime stories, like Oscar Pistorius, Casey Anthony, etc.

The problem is that the media outlets don't know when to give up. They drag those stories on way beyond the time that anyone is still paying attention.

as an opportunity to do something else with my time whenever MSNBC or some other outlet milks a story all day or week. I watch political shows and news solely to hear about stuff that I haven't before, not to hear a bunch of talking heads regurgitating the same material.

Don't get me wrong, I still watched plenty of news, but it got so I just glossed over things a lot of the time instead of listening to the dirty rotten scoundrels of the Bush era.

I was glued 24/7 to the 2000 election and was so thrilled with a Gore presidency. So I watched the Bush v. Gore news 24/7 also, and just got literally depressed when he finally conceded. After that, I definitely got more selective about what I invested in, and I'm still the same way about certain news stories. Interestingly, I feel the same way you do about the refugee stories going on now -- you are not alone!
