I was just wondering what those deaths equate to for gun and ammo companies in terms of money they made off of these deaths? The shooters needed guns and ammo - these companies made a buck off of these 50,000 deaths. Is this type of blood money worth it to them?

If it were up to me, the NRA and all gun mfgs would be out of business, entirely, tomorrow.

To answer your question, we're told that gun sales and gun ownership is down, so while money is being made, maybe it's less money than in years past. I have no idea.
We all support universal background checks, stricter controls on ownership, and more educational programs and requirements for safe storage of guns and ammo.

(17,064 posts)What probably wasn't mentioned, was that about 30,000 of those gun-related deaths were suicides.
Of the remainder, some were accidental or justifiable ... so the number of homicides due to gun violence is in the 16-18,000 range during the time since Sandy Hook. About 2/3 of those shooters would have previous felonies on their record, thus weren't legally allowed to own a gun anyway. Most of their victims had felony records, also. This is from CDC and DoJ databases. The approx 12K homicides/year is substantially lower than the 20K+ /year of twenty-some years ago.

(37,337 posts)the Golden Gate Bridge. All those who survived the jump said later that as soon as they let go, they realized they could solve their problems. Of those who survived only one later committed suicide.
When you pull the trigger on the gun, you don't have the time to realize that or change your mind.
Less guns easily available would likely reduce that number. The idea that somebody looking at committing suicide is making a rational choice, like "paper or plastic" or "fries with that" and that therefore suicides don't count is ludicrous in my opinion.

You got 2 gun-related groups in which to post this radio report. More than enough.
