Anthony Fired for Racist Tirade (Opie & Anthony Show)

'Opie And Anthony' Host Unleashes Racist Tirade: 'Violent Savages Own The Streets'

Popular shock jock Anthony Cumia, co-host of SiriusXM's comedy show "Opie and Anthony," took to Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday morning to blast out a vulgar, racist tirade about an African-American woman he claims assaulted him in Manhattan hours earlier.

Referring to his alleged attacker as a "cunt animal," Cumia claimed he was taking pictures in Times Square when the woman, caught in one of the photos, became violent and punched him in the face. His tweets soon devolved into a rant about African-Americans as Cumia proclaimed black people to be "uncivilized" and "savage," adding, "they aren't people."

On Friday, SiriusXM released a statement announcing the radio host's firing:
SiriusXM has terminated its relationship with Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony channel. The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, July 3 after careful consideration of his racially-charged and hate-filled remarks on social media. Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents.

You can't scream a lot of craziness and keep your job. Not if it hurts your boss' brand. They'll fire you- that's what they do.

Can't remember if it was 2008 or 2012, probably both, but the entire show was angrily blasting the black people of America. I can't imagine anything in the show being good enough to compensate for the guy being a total ass and I suspect he should have been fired years ago.

I listened to one of their podcasts a few months ago only because they had a comedian on that I like. The comedian was great but the two hosts had no impact on me at all. I had no idea who they were and no desire to find out.

Curiously, Lush Rambaugh is having to ramp up his feces-hit-rotor rhetoric because the competition from other barking spiders keeps raising the ante. A lot of these radio stations are being propped up as it is, and will soon have fewer followers than a some shit-slinging racist web site of modest "hitting" power. Fewer and fewer people listen to this crap.

This is why more and more FM stations are switching to contemporary Christian music, righty talk, or sports talk.

I've seen this game in radio before. Now that Anthony has been fired, either Opie will move to be fired, or a "Bring Anthony Back" campaign will ensue. In the latter case, if the ratings rise, S/XM brings him back; he makes profuse apologies; and then they go about BAU. On the other hand, if they both want out, they get out. They either go the webcast route (and receive 100% of reduced ad revenue) or find an FM station in Tampa or Orlando who wants to deal with them.

to say the least as punk rock was gathering force. So, record company promo guys would buy up a bunch of records at a few shops to pump up sales & chart ratings for some lackluster act. It was called "phony Beatlemania."

...the renewal for another year is coming up next month.

Never ever listened to these two neo-nazi-nitwits until I listened to a few minutes from the youtube links posted above, but if Sirius/XM brings this racist/misogynist fucker back, or if they continue as Opie & "whoever," I will tell them I don't want to renew. "Opie" oughta be canned too, he's a piece of shit as much as "Ant."

I hardly listen to it anymore anyway, since I have other, free options for music such as Spotify, YouTube, Pandora, and so on, where I can pick and choose what I want to hear.
