Mitch McConnell Promises More Abortion Restrictions If GOP Wins Back Senate

by Matt Wilstein | 7:48 pm, July 1st, 2014

If Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) wins reelection this fall and Republicans take back the Senate from Democrats, he will likely become Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The senator reminded potential voters of this fact over the weekend when he spoke at the National Right to Life Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

“I’m proud of my record and defense of life. If I was majority leader, we’d already have had a vote on it in the Senate,” McConnell said, referring to legislation on abortion rights. “It’s long past time for us to join the ranks of most other civilized nations to protect children past 20 weeks in the womb.”

McConnell also criticized the current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (R-NV) for refusing to bring a bill limiting abortion rights to the floor. “The majority leader, whoever that person is, has the prerogative to schedule what we do,” he said. “I don’t know about you, but the guy you’re looking at might be a better scheduler.”

McConnell’s Democratic opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes has said she is “pro-choice down the line on abortion” and opposes a ban on abortion after 20 weeks.

10. What do you want to bet he is too old and prudish to know what to do with his own body.

That's why he is anti-women and anti-sex.

I wonder when an employer will ask to be excused from providing sexual counseling on potency for men. Hobby Lobby does not mention Viagra. Wonder why not?

7. Sooo, Mitch, does this mean you'll promote free BC and Plan B to prevent abortions after 20 weeks?

If you're serious about stopping abortions, that would be the only right thing to do... Just sayin'

blood, they will most like win the Senate. Even the women harmed by the abortion decision may tilt towards voting their feelings about Iraq 2.

War in Iraq for regardless what reason is extremely unpopular. It's an awful idea.

The Sunnis and Shiites are going to fight it out somewhere in the Middle East. There is utterly nothing we can do about it. We need to use alternative energy here. Germany in a cold rainy cloudy climate with horrible winters is using lots of solar. We have deserts where the sun beats down day after day. Our capacity to produce solar energy is nearly untapped. It's just a matter of getting the public excited about investing in the infrastructure necessary for solar energy. I live in Southern California. We had all of about 6 inches of rain in the year from June 2013-June 2014. We should be driving more electric cars.

The time to have made the switch and to have focused on developing alternative energy was the Reagan administration. Unfortunately, conservatives were elected. We Democrats need to work harder.

This Hobby Lobby decision will set Republicans back, way back.

They have gun control, a 'let's not invade other country' policy, are going green, easy with woman in power, don't let Middle eastern faiths control the conversation, have children that score high in STEM fields...

Yeah, it's long past time for us to join them.

How many women will vote for this guy this time?

If the women could all vote against him, he'd be history. Instead he's making history. I can see why some men would vote for him, by why would any woman?
