He's a staunch Republican who has worked for Procter & Gamble. Guess the upside is that he will have an easy confirmation.

That being said, I hope he does a great job and cleans up the VA so it is able to provide timely quality care for all vets.

(46,416 posts)towards him by Repubs (as with Hagel--uniquely personal and nasty) or whether there's some political advantage to holding up the vote (Brennan: Benghazi, drones, etc.)--I don't see a problem with getting this guy confirmed. I wish him luck, it's a tough job and I feel bad that Shinseki wasn't able to see it through.

(2,004 posts)This whole "scandal" about the VA is another run on rails Shock Doctrine scheme to sell off the VA assets to the private medical corporations. Once the VA hospitals are sold off the veterans will quickly loose any benefits. The money that would have been spent to care for our veterans will be sucked up into corporate profits.
You could see this coming back when under Bush the Lesser, they "had" to close Walter Reed VA facility due to substandard facilities. It was the test case to see if they could steal the VA assets without protests from the veterans and taxpayers. First step is underfund and drive maintenance to nothing so facilities start to become run down, then you cut staffing and put on ridiculous workloads so the staff can never catch up, then you get a corporate news media to "blow the whistle" on the poor care. Then, you appoint a corporate raider who will determine that all care will be best if "privatized". Final step is to give all the money that should be spent on care of veterans to the corporations while neglecting the veterans who will be getting next to no care in the private care hospitals.
Shock Doctrine, somebody should write a book and blow the whistle on the theft of public tax dollars. Oh, that's right Naomi Klein did write that book, but the news media ignores it.
Post Office, public schools, military, public roads are all being attacked to benefit private corporations, now the VA is on the chopping block.

(25,026 posts)Obama has appointed far too many and nothing good will come of it, including more TeaPubliKlan appointments in the future because no Democrats will be developed.
Hey, if it is associated with defense it does not mean a piece of shit TeaPubliKlan is required to be in charge of it. Does your resume just go in the fucking trash if you answer no to "Are you now or have you ever been a Republican?"
Team of rivals my ass, it is team of Turd Way corporatists and open TeaPubliKlans.
Bob McDonald is scum.
