(53,475 posts)We need to vet candidates at the school board, county board and township board level, then prepare them for bigger stages.

(81,440 posts)That's what ralph reed told republi-CONS everywhere during the 80s. Start by running for school board. And county council. Or local commissioner or something. Yes. Run for dog-catcher. Start small and work up. Build your infrastructure and alliances and mentorships and connections. Then start moving up. Before you know it, the Senate or the Governorship is calling... or some such thing.

(7,499 posts)We need a thorough house cleaning, and no more settling for "better than the other guy". That thinking got us where we are now - with DINOs who are pandering to the GOP and unwilling to take a firm stand for true, time tested Democratic ideals.

(4,627 posts)... is in the primaries, when selecting Democratic candidates. Once the candidate is selected, it is imperative that we line up behind him or her.
We are a Duopoly, there's no getting around it. Unlike the parliamentary system in most of Europe, we are given a stark choice, a binary choice: it's either "us" or "them", Democrat or Republican. The choices at the margin just split the ticket and usher in a win for the other side. Really.

He takes me back to the days in Ohio of Sen. Glenn and Sen. Metzenbaum.
We weren't always the land ruled by the likes of Kasich and Mike DeWine and Co.

(9,958 posts)The objective monetary incentive leads to the ideology.
The ideology determines that constraints upon actors in acquiring an objective monetary incentive are "unpatriotic."
Actors collude secretly to violate constraints in order to obtain an objective monetary objective, i.e. conspire; see Cheney v U.S. District Court.

(6,335 posts)their mission is shrink govt to the size of a bathtub so they can drown it by continually inventing conspiracy theories like Benghazi, Climate Change, Fast Furious, Obamacare, ad nauseum destroying Americans confidence in govt. THeir goal: Destroy govt and replace with privatization.

How sick is that?! But I believe it to be true.

(7,358 posts)I'd vote for Sherrod Brown without hesitance. Hillary, only because she'd be better than a Republican. I'm having my doubts that Hillary will run. Perhaps we should push for Sherrod Brown's candidacy.

(5,927 posts)The party leadership/brain trust/whatever put its support behind Sherrod when he was competing with a very popular liberal vet (I am kicking myself for not remembering his name). I myself wanted the vet because he was saying such good stuff and he was clever in his commercials. But the leadership wanted Brown and they got him.
As much as I liked he other guy, it really appears that Sherrod was the drop dead right choice.
Now if I could just remember his name, the other guy! Memory is the first thing to go. Can't remember what the second thing is.
