(12,132 posts)I grew up in Duncanville. My best friend moved to Red Oak when I was Jr High. Haven't heard much from any of them but I hear a lot of power is out. One friend who is on FB let us know several others were fine.
And I'm glad for all you other safe DUers.

(25,771 posts)My wife was sick this morning and was home working on grading tests, etc. when the storm came over. If she had been teaching today she would have been traveling by the Waterburger that was shown in one of the pictures at just about the time that tornado was there. She teaches an afternoon class in Burleson. She called them and they went to a safe area, but nobody had contacted them. There was another that hit near there.
We are safe at home now.

My sister lives in Allen. My other sister lives in Garland, but I don't know where my brother lives. My prayers are out to all of them, as well as to you guys.

(18,585 posts)A vinyl gutter got smashed, but no windows broken (this time) and no shingles in the yard.
Color me cautiously optimistic.
Glad you are okay!

(3,069 posts)It was dark with lots of rain here, but not much else. The thunder and lightening wasn't even that bad. It is a little jarring given how violent the storms were just a few miles away though.

(9,974 posts)Sirens went off, all the patients were moved to the hallway (beds, wheelchairs, O2 tanks, whatever it took)...kept them there for at least 30-40 minutes. Finally got everyone back to their rooms. I don't think any of us realized how extensive th area damage was until we got all caught up with work and started seeing video on the news and computers. At least 12-14 funnel clouds were spotted an/or on the ground within an a 2 or 3 hour timespan. At about 3 or 4 pm, it literally looked like midnight outside our hospital windows for a while...pitch black. As that cleared up and it got closer to 6 pm, the sky turned yellow. Our collective jaws hit the ground as we saw online video of the truck trailers being blown around like little toys at the height of the storm nearby.
Reading thru the online coverage now, it says Lancaster has in place a 7pm til 7am curfew. Damage areas are really, really widespread across the Metroplex but it looks like Lancaster and Arlington took the brunt of the twisters.
I live in a northern suburb that was spared any damage and am pretty damn grateful tonight as I sit here thinking about those who are now holed up at the local shelters set up the worst hit areas!
