I wonder if the two brain cell Republicans down in the tornado zone will want the gubmint help and will accept from gubmint first responders whose pensions they want to abolish are happy to accept assistance after their butts have been nearly vacuumed off the planet. It seems like we are in the "twisted zone" anymore. Nothing makes sense.
I guess that whatever is left of government is ok as long as they are the only ones to benefit. I am getting sick of this me, me, me ism that is going on. I have had enough attacks on the gubmint employees who risk their lives to save everyone no matter what their party or affiliation.
I realize that public employees come from all parties, Republican, Democrat and Independent. And they rightfully make no distinction when someone is hurting. I would certainly not make a distinction either where a person's alliances reside. What I do not understand and perhaps someone can explain it to me is why these differences divide us so much after these disasters are over.
And it is funny, after all the pieces have been picked up and the government programs help put their lives back together, they act like they did it ALL THEMSELVES. And they go back to hating government workers and the government that just saved their asses.
The same people teabaggers included simply hate the people who will save their lives literally. I cannot wrap my mind around such a deep mental disconnect. In one moment some of these same people are grateful that you saved them from disaster. Yet at another time they rant and rail that you get too much money as a public employee and should not get a pension that you are a leech.
The Ryan budget will royally screw a lot of Republicans too along with everyone else and it will send this country into a deep pit. Yet people who have gotten government assistance and who will in the future are ready to enthusiastically embrace Ryan's budget and Romney who says he will pass it. What in the H will they do when an F6 tornado comes along and wipes out everything they have? What will they do if we have a massive pandemic? And what will they do with any of these potential disasters and THERE IS NO ONE THERE TO SHOW UP.

Hate is a very hard emotion to dislodge once it has taken root.

If it was his hood they'd be calling the national guard but since it's mixed race working class folk they'll have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps or some other silly shit

(31,849 posts)And it's a fundamental difference between the Liberal and conservatives mindset ...
While conservatives always accuse Liberals of having an "Entitlement Mentality", it is really just another example of their projecting.
Think about it ...
Liberals want, and are willing to pay for, a strong safety net and governmental services ... just in case we need them. If we never need them, we don't begrudge those that do ... That's what it's there for and "but for the grace of God there I would be."
That advocacy and willingness to pay makes those safety net and governmental services paid for, both fiscally and intellectually.
Now take the conservative ...
Because of his belief in American Mythology (i.e., The rugged individualist that made it all on his own; the world is your's for the taking if you would just follow the rules, the rest are just lazy slackards; God will bless you if you would just believe "right", etc.) he cannot contemplate bad things happening to otherwise undeserving people.
So the conservative argues against the safety net and governmental services because his belief system tells him that he will never need them ... Until, of course, when he does.
At which point he will be the first in line for any and all governmental services that are available ... "After all, that's what they are there for." In short, they feel entitled to the governmental services ... Nevermind they condemned others for using those same services; nevermind, they have advocated that tax-payers not pay for those very services.
