People gripe about Democrats not explaining government well enough, yet I just heard President Obama's Press Secretary use the term Entitlements. That is a term used by the radical right and the selfish to disparage and profit from the efforts of hard-working Americans.
For example, heard a Texas woman (I think she was a local politician, maybe a mayor?) talking about the aftermath of the tornado this morning, and she pointed out how lives were saved and the public safety impact of the weather data provided by satellites "developed by NASA". What a great opportunity - having grown up through an era when about the best warning you had was looking at the sky, the fact that AMERICAN INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY saved lives today.
Talk about seizing an opportunity. Anyone else hear her? Who was that? sharp woman...
Anyway, Carney, say it like you are on the side of the Democrats or find another job.
Please.

his job. Wonder why Obama picked him in the first place? And
based on what you posted, sounds like he has no political
savvy either.

(62,683 posts)subject line like "Carney/Dems need to use "Earned Benefits" instead of 'Entitlements'!
I've long said we need our own Frank Luntz! They get their terms out there and hammer them home until they become part of the lexicon and we're ALL saying things like "energy exploration" instead of "drilling for oil".

(17,077 posts)It doesn't even rise to the level of strategy. I was going to say good idea in the subject line, but it's really not a good idea even for an anonymous poster on a Dem message board. (Sorry, I don't mean to be snarky; your post is actually very enlightening). However, the fact that the "professionals" haven't thought of this in the months that this has been a hot topic is very suspicious. I can't accept that it's just an oversight. For pete's sake, this is their very reason for existence: to communicate with the public and to sell their ideas.
