Zimmerman defender rants about ‘young black males’: “If you plant corn, you get corn."

Zimmerman defender rants about ‘young black males’

.......................

“It sounds like you are saying that it made sense to you that George Zimmerman would be fearful of young black men,” O’Brien observed.

“No, it would be consistent that the perpetrators were all of the young black male ID,” Taaffe explained. “All of the perpetrators of the prior burglaries were young black males. … You know, there’s an old saying that if you plant corn, you get corn.”

“If you plant corn, you get corn. What does that mean?” O’Brien wondered.

“It is what it is,” Taaffe replied. “I would go on record stating, of the eight prior burglaries in the 15 months prior to the Trayvon Martin shooting, all of the perpetrators were young black males. … No disrespect to George Clooney, but it was a perfect storm. All the ingredients were set up. You know, the prior burglaries were committed or perpetrated by young black males, George was on his neighborhood watch rounds.”

There is a narrative that George Zimmerman, despite being half-Hispanic (it's the White half that is causing all the problems, apparently) decided one night to off a Black kid, even though there are many former instances of his calling the police.

Maybe he just stopped believing that the police would handle it. Maybe he wasn't trying to kill him. Maybe Tray reached for the gun. Instead of condemning him out of hand, try waiting to see what turns up.

That's the purpose of a trial....to hear all the evidence and make a determination as to what (probably) happened that night.

But the police department's refusal to even arrest him presumes that he was justified in killing a young black man with no further investigation. THAT's the outrage here.

Edit: You guys beat me to it in the posts above. Great minds think alike.

.r.

Why didn't O'Brien ask, if he WAS on "neighborhood watch rounds," why was he carrying a gun, which is expressly forbidden per Neighborhood Watch rules (engaging the 'suspect' is also forbidden), and why is he not listed on the official Neighborhood Watch roster.

In addition, I thought he said (or one of his surrogates said) that he was "on his way to Target," not "on patrol."

I know ... all this has been asked here at DU, but why don't more interviewers follow up with these jokers?

Or is he maybe just saying young-black-male young-black-male young-black-male in an attempt to justify Zimmerman's actions?

“How many of those cases did they arrest people?” O’Brien wondered. “How many of those cases were people actually convicted.”

One that I know of where the perpetrator was apprehended,” Taaffe admitted. “The young black male went in during the daytime just two houses down from where my my place was.”

They caught one black male, and he knows of one other. It is therefore consistent that all the perpetrators were young black males - that's actually what he claims - it's consistent.

So if a person convinces themselves by any stretch of the imagination, facts or otherwise, they can become the sole arbiter of another person's fate.

If a person is enraged, they don't have to follow any laws or regulation, they just act on that impulse and just do it right then and there.

Isn't that what we used to call the actions of a criminal?

He doesn't mention that no one was supposed to take the law into their own hands, they were supposed to call the law, not be the law.

They were not supposed to engage or pursue, they were supposed to... But they forgot that sissy stuff.

Oh, heck, don't bother the defenders of all that is good and right with whiny liberal obey the law stuff. Whimps!

This is typical teabagger, hot headed, illogical and no respect for lawful authority. They believe they should take action without reflection, 'just do it.'

The defense of Zimmerman is revealing the underlying pathology of Dittoheads and why rightwing terrorism is on the rise.

Tue Apr 3, 2012, 11:57 AM
Apr 2012

Trayvon Martin, a young black male, has reaped the harvest planted by the other young black males, get it? You plant corn, you get corn. Haha! But don't worry. Mr. Taafe is "not racist," and probably has "lots of black friends." It just "is what it is," you know? It is mysterious how Mr. Taafe knows the identities of all the burglars since they, you know, "always get away," but that's beside the point. You plant corn, you get corn.

I hope the Zimmerman Fan Club is proud of the company they're keeping here...

If these people actually listen to what they are saying?

First, he says that ALL of the 8 break-ins were done by young Black males; but can only state that ONE of the break-ins were done by young, Black males.

Then, uses this "if you plant corn, you get corn” logic to explain a "perfect storm" of "ingredients" that led to zimmerman's actions. Doesn't he realize that he has pretty much DEFINED profiling?

Zimmerman any favors!

If this goes to court, I think that's exactly the direction the prosecutor might take.

and if it doesn't go to court, it just fuels the fire under Trayvon Martin's friends, family, and supporters.

Zimmerman would, IMO, be total toast out there on the streets.

If I were Zimmerman's lawyer I would be PISSED as hell at Taafe's big mouth.

I saw that whole thing and even though Soledad O'Brien was sort of playing dumb, she was actually pretty skillful (again IMO) and at the end of it, I could swear she had a look of satisfaction on her face.

The guy was arrogant. He wanted to talk and talk and talk and that's exactly what he did.

Talked Zimmerman right into a hole. What an idiot.

Zimmerman ought to have known better then to confront someone who wasn't committing a crime. Neighbors described him as someone who "took his job too seriously", and of being "overzealous, maybe".

Taaffe is trying argue that young black males in general or those that supposedly eight prior burglaries in the area are responsible for the "perfect storm".

If there wasn't a young man dead, this all would have the makings of a a very dark comedy. A grandfather who was in the CIA, a father who is a retired judge, and every unkown, young, black male walking the streets is a hardened criminal.
