Another fracking-related quake in Oklahoma?

The magnitude 4.0 quake occurred last night, 16 miles from the town of McAlester, Oklahoma.

When I saw it on today's earthquake map, I was immediately reminded of the swarm of apparently fracking-related quakes last year, so I did a little googling. It seems that McAlester is right in the middle of a major fracking area: "Geologists have know about woodford shale for a long time but companies have only started exploring it ten years ago. Drilling only started several years ago. This has boosted the average salary of the citizens from 26,000 to near 35,000-40,000 per year in McAlester. Some say if you drive through Atoka, Coalgate, and McAlester, they are totally transformed. Great wealth is being created every year." (http://oilshalegas.com/woodfordshale.html)

But I also found a very nervous blogger, who points out that the fracking operation is just across from a military ammunition depot:

Who is the ‘rocket scientist’ who decided that a giant ‘fracking’ operation would be a good thing to place ENTIRELY AROUND the U.S. Army Ammunition Depot?! The actual location is called McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.

Complete with underground storage bunkers .. and a large ammunition manufacturing facility, this “shake up” should be a WAKE UP to the military —- this Army facility just got its OWN ‘clarion call’ regarding the dangers of “frac well drilling”.

For certain, ANOTHER man made / fracking earthquake… says to me that at this point, unless it was an underground explosion or accident — that fracking is starting to even step on the toes of the Military. Also says to me, that big oil is not taking ANYONE into consideration in their drilling location choices. . . .

Check out the FRACK WELLS right across the street from the ammo plant! derp.. GENIUSES at the helm ..

I have a couple of relatives exploring fracking on their land in the Deep River basin. The state of NC hasn't approved these operations as of yet. The more I read about it though I am convinced that this type of drilling does cause earthquakes and other environmental hazards. Will that stop these major companies from profiting? I doubt it. The NC GOP will probably approve this in the next few months.
