Fire, ellisonz & pinboy marched together in L.A. Sunday for Trayvon Martin (PHOTOS)

x-posted from Occupy Underground group ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1252 ).

We met up and joined together Sunday afternoon in a march and rally sponsored by the Committee for Justice for Trayvon Martin, which grew out of a similar justice march sponsored by Occupy the Hood L.A. one week earlier. The march to Leimert Park in South (formerly South Central) Los Angeles was followed by a rally there.

Getting some honking love from passing motorists as we assembled before the march...

Marching (with lots of supportive honking from the street traffic)...

Another (notice the kids in hoodies marching)...

We passed signs of love in the community for President Obama...

Finally, we reach our destination...

...and rally under the palms...

L.A.'s New Black Riders, a group styled after the Black Panthers, was there. They chanted, “Trayvon Martin, never again! Oscar Grant, never again! Too black, too strong! All power to the people.”

Jubilee Shine, one of the organizers, urged the crolwd to vote in elections at every level of government...

Fire, ellisonz and I decided against posting a photo of the three of us, but here's one of me...

It was great to meet ellisonz and to see Fire Walk With Me again. We missed U4ikLefty, who was busy at an event across town in Hollywood for the 6-month anniversary of Occupy L.A., but DUers/Occupy Underground members will continue to meet up at L.A. actions.

It's very interesting to see raw pictures like these that aren't filtered through the mass media.

These marches and rallies for justice are going on all over the country. I hooked my story on US not to collect accolades for us, but to highlight the participation of DUers and DU's Occupy Undergrounders.

In another thread, a DUer said she was going to a Trayvon rally in her town. In her case, as in many others, no report was posted. No photos.

We know that DUers are out there, in the streets, at these marches and rallies. But we'll never hear in the threads from most of them . If I hadn't posted about DUers participating in this march, no one would know that we DUers were there.

Personally, I LOVE to see threada on what DUers are doing in the streets. It counters the meme that internet political posters are sitting in their bathrobes in their moms' basements eating Cheetos.

Well, some of us weren't sitting around eating Cheetos on Sunday.

Marching forjustice for Trayvon was important, and DUers were there. But if I didn't post here about it, you'd never now that.

...but they didn't seem to run a story. KABC did do some alright interviews and cut out the neo-Black Panthers, which was probably for the better as the Martin family does not want them sullying the message.

If there was other MSM I didn't see them, although in fairness the previous march seemed much bigger as pinboy3niner's pictures attest

Yes, KTLA was there, even though they did not air a report on the march.

The Million Hoodie March was much larger, with more than 2,000 there, so it got more coverage. A reporter from the local Fox affiliate was there for hours and did a good report that emphasized the energy of the protesters.

That march also was conducted downtown, not in 'the hood,' which also may have had something to do with the difference in coverage. To be fair, though, Sunday's march was not as well-publicized.

People like you.
Gotta organize our beach party
so we can have some fun together-
I really need that right now.

Isolating WAY to much these days...
