My son is nearly 13.
He came to me Friday night about Trayvon. He said it was the topic of conversation at school.
He wanted to hear the 911 tapes. He wanted to know why a black kid in a hoodie was a big deal (for the record, he's mixed Arabic and has friends of ALL spectrum.)
One thing he did tell me is that the gold teeth, the wife-beater (yeah, he knew that term) and the "birds" were all a Lil Wayne thing. He said Trayvon was just being funny, like most of his friends on Facebook. He knew that on the first "gold tooth" shot I showed him.
Just some knowledge... that's all.

And thanks for the education! No one in my life is anywhere NEAR that young!

I loved the insight, which I think is missing.
A dude in gold-mouth in a "wife beater" is not a threat to any parent of a normal teen boy.

(62,683 posts)embrace music we can't quite connect to. They've got to rebel, and if it's just with their music, hopefully, I'm fine with that!

And I bet if you found pics from the '80's you would find similar stuff. It's nothing new. I wonder if these people who are making judgement on Trayvon pics have teenagers? I think not...
