1 800 870-6108, a number advertised in the ad to call
for a "special message" about the return of "The Christ" "The Krishna"
and a the appearance of a star that will be visible night and day.
The organization is "Share International" a whack-a-doodle web
site featuring the ramblings of Benjamin Creme.
Someone told me they also saw it on MSNBC.
What the hell?
I'm going to call it and I will report back.

(10,618 posts)I remember him from some time in the 1970's. I had a friend back then who was totally into weird crap including UFOs and the second coming of Christ/Buddha/Maitreya. He used to on and on about this Benjamin Creme guy. What a whack job he was! Creme was already an old man back then, so I figured he had long since faded into history.

(17,162 posts)All I can say is it was "out there" as an experience.
But I can't help but wonder, where is the funding for this stuff coming from?
MSNBC?
REALLY?

(53,661 posts)I think it turns out LaRouche is Koch candy, this guy may be also. Can't tell with this stuff.
If not, he's being supported by the people who believe him like the infamous Reverend Moon. He's the second coming of Christ on Earth, you know. So watch out.

(17,162 posts)I find that VERY odd indeed.
Just cruised the Youtubes on it and the Christians are warning

(53,339 posts)But it's COLD where you are? It's 50 right now in my community in the Antelope Valley, with the high Tuesday forecast at 75.
It was a few degrees shy of that today, and I got a kick out of seeing my elderly WWII vet neighbor sitting out on the steps in the sun. He's on oxygen, and tends to be shut in in winter. When he has a chance to sit in the sunshine, I count it as a good day.

(53,339 posts)And on Sunday, three of us (Fire Walk With Me, ellisonz and I) marched together for Trayvon Martin in South L.A. - http://www.democraticunderground.com/12521853 (while U4ikLefty was doing an Occupy L.A. action at H'wood & Vine).
Fire (and maybe Lefty, too) also has #Occupied with Mr. & Mrs. coalitionunwilling from the beginning of Occupy L.A. 6 months ago, and robin has expressed interest in doing an action together. And in San Diego, nadin also has considered coming up here for a major event.
There was an effort in the CA forum to get a CA meetup together up north, but iirc that plan hit a snag (though Bay Area DUers have had a couple of barbecues together, hosted by pinto, I think).
Because some can do weekends only, a weekend action is best for an L.A. area or SoCal meetup. A meetup can be done on its own, but I like the idea of piggybacking off an action in which we also work together in the streets. WHOSE STREETS? OUR STREETS!
I'll keep you in mind for a shout out when I see something that may be a good opportunity for some of us to link up. And friending Occupy L.A. activist Patti Beers on FB is a good way to plug into her alerts on upcoming actions: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001246205159#!/pmbeers
You can also stay abreast of activities by checking the OLA website and its calendar (check for both 'official' and 'affiliate' actions): http://occupylosangeles.org/
We can all use a drink of DU water. We just cross our fingers that we don't end up suffering from 'Skinner's Revenge.'
Hope to see you soon!

This has been the WORST year of my life, medically speaking.

(53,339 posts)Reports on our Sunday march pegged the distance variously as 1.5 or 3 miles--with many in hoodies. It might have been 1.5--for a crow--but we aren't crows, so we had to hump the whole 3 miles (which felt, to me, more like the 26 miles of the Marathon! And I was once an Army combat Infantry foot soldier!).
A DU beach party is a great idea. We'd get SoCal members, and others from all over CA who might be able to make it. From Redlands, CA in the North to nadin in the South, they'll come.
And I can't tell you how much I appreciate your volunteering to organize it.
First off, you'll need to post an OP in the CA Group to announce that you're planning a meetup in order to give everyone a heads-up. You'll also need to look at beach sites and accomodations and availability dates.
If you thought having a bum knee was bad before, just wait 'til you see the work involved in the project it gave you.
But I know you'll do fine.

supposed public appearance of the "one."
I can't believe this story is still going on and that
stations are actually broadcasting it!
Talk about surreal.
Can't say it does a damned thing for Current TV's reputation.
I'm REALLY surprised by their decision to air ir, no matter how
much they might need the money...

(135,425 posts)I would bet that CURRENT is a heavily discounted market--it has few viewers. MSNBC doesn't get the "hits" that CNN and even Faux get. I'm betting they're more affordable than a lot of people realize, particularly if they are going for empty slots and let the ad seller do the placements to fill in the gaps.
I have no idea what they're claiming, these whackadoodles, and really don't care. All I know is that TV ads -- especially when bought in regional, rather than national, markets--are not all that pricey if you buy at the right time and are flexible in your packaging. Look at some of these noxious half hour info-mercials, hawking all kinds of crap. They only put those things up because they can afford the tv time.

(32,086 posts)I have seen anti-Obama and other extreme right-wing commercials running during "Countdown", Rachel's show, "Up With Chris Hayes", and other lefty shows. All I could think of was, "What a waste of money!" Which is fine. I'd rather these whackos spend their money airing these ads on a unreceptive audience than on the clueless ones at other networks.

But on the serious side - lots of people have better ideas than our politicians. It isn't hard, for chrissakes, you can hardly AVOID it. But so what? What are you supposed to DO about them?
