preliminary thoughts on cantor’s loss

By Liberal Librarian

This is huge.

Eric Cantor is not just some backbencher.
This is as big as when Tom Foley lost his seat in the Gingrich Revolution.

And Cantor outspent his Teabagger opponent by 25-1. And lost. Humiliatingly.

Cantor was the epitome of the GOP establishment. And that helped him not a jot.

What this shows is that there is a ferment on the Right against politics as usual. But the Right is so far out of the mainstream that it opens a door for the center-left.

Gird your loins, Obots. Things just got interesting.

further hastening its eventual demise. I'm hoping thire subsequent actions will bring about even more disgust of the party's actions and push people even further in the opposite direction. In other words, I'm hoping it's a continuation of the party being completely on the wrong side of history on every issue.

Now we just have to bolster this by figuring out how to get younger generations to vote Democratic (no thanks to the Democratic Party).

but still a little troubled by how the general election will go. The last thing this country needs is the Brat. Could easily be worse than Cantor. Fingers crossed though.

Worst case, a trade was made whereby the experienced, "Knows Where the Bodies Are Buried," attack dog LEADER goes out the door, to be replaced by a minor cog with no committee experience, no DC experience, no leadership experience, no policy-making experience, no friends, no connections, no ability to threaten.

In sum, they've traded a lion for a kitten.

Politicians seem to be universally held in disdain by an electorate that is too lazy to understand issues. Being likable takes on more importance than competence or being in the self interest of the voter. Reagan was the model for the disaster that threatens us all Cantor the logical consequence of a politician with the opposite quality. Add to that Reagan the likable character was senile very early in his administration. I was appalled by Reagan from day one and could never understand why he was "liked". It is easier in some ways to understand Cantor and why he is hated.
