Paul Ryan Still Not Interested In Running For GOP Leadership

SAHIL KAPUR – JUNE 11, 2014, 11:32 AM EDT

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) still has no intention of running for a position in House Republican leadership after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's shocking GOP primary defeat Tuesday night.

Ryan's spokesman, asked about the prospect, referred TPM to this comment by the House budget chairman on Wednesday to a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: "My position has not changed. I'm not interested in leadership ... That's just not been my interest."

In January, Ryan said he had no intention of being House Speaker and that he could've decided to go the "leadership route" years ago but concluded he's "not going to do that." People close to Ryan say he wants to be chairman of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee next term. The former vice presidential nominee is also rumored to be a presidential contender in 2016.
